September 12, 200322 yr fortunately, its a simple one ;-)what time will the PIC on VATSIM Kenya-Israel start for me...i'm having trouble calculating(yup, had F's every mathtest :-),which the wife thinks is way cool,as i can't count the money she's spending :-( )i'm in the Netherlands,so what is 15.00/15.45Z for me?....am i correct in assuming it'll be later here?thanks anyway...
September 12, 200322 yr http://greenwichmeantime.comNetherlands is in the Central European Time Zone. Central European Standard Time (CET) is 1 hours ahead of Greenwich Mean Time (GMT+1). Does Netherlands observe Daylight Saving / Summer Time?Like most states in Europe, Summer (Daylight-Saving) Time is observed in Netherlands, where the time is shifted forward by 1 hour; 2 hours ahead of Greenwich Mean Time (GMT+2). After the Summer months the time is shifted back by 1 hour to Central European Time (CET) or (GMT+1) So Tom1500Z would be 1700 Hrs NL in the summer and 1600 Hrs NL in the winter
September 12, 200322 yr It looks like Bill did a good job of explaining it Tom. Just remember that London time is Z plus 1 in the summer and is equal to Z in the winter. If you are always 1 hour later than London, then as Bill said, you are currently Z plus 2 hours. And so 1500Z is 5 P.M. for you. And 1545Z is 5:45 P.M. for you. All this is assuming you are now one hour later than the time in London.Mike
September 12, 200322 yr Unfortunately for me, the math does not smile upon me as a 1500Z kick off = 0100 Sunday morning on the east coast of Oz :( Still, perhaps with a bit of :-beerchug on Saturday night, I may just be stoopid enough join you dudes. If I do make it and at some stage you see my aircraft diving with ATC frantically trying to communicate with me to no avail, I've probably fallen asleep at the yoke and am beyond recovery. When I wake up, I hope to be in flight sim heaven (wait a minute, isn't that when 767 PIC is patched to FS9?? - settle) :-bigangel Gary 9800X3D | 4090 | 64GB | 2+1TB NVME | 2TB SSD | 2TB HDD | 85/50/43” TVs | Quest 3 | DOF H3 Motion Rig | Buttkicker | T.16000M Flight Kit MSFS @ 4K Ultra DLSS Performance FG 80 FPS | VR VDXR Godlike 80Hz SSW | MSFS VR DLSS Quality, Ultra Preset - Windows 11 Acer Nitro 5 | i5-11400H | RTX 3060 6 GB | 32GB DDR4 | 15.6" FHD IPS 144Hz | 2 x 512 GB SSD | Windows 11
September 12, 200322 yr There are 2 other ways to work out time difference Tom.There are a number of Web sites which deal with World time, do a search on 'World Time'.You can also start FS at your home airport with the correct time and then slew to our start airport, it *should* show the time there compared to your local time.HTH
September 12, 200322 yr Another good one is to purchase (or usually find in your home) and old cheap clock (digital or analog). Find out what time it is UTC - set it, put it on your monitor and forget about it.Now you always know what time it is Zulu.Think of all the brain cells I could have saved myself if I had only done this myself .
September 12, 200322 yr or get a nice shiny watch that can display time in local and UTC at the same time :D Sure comes in handy at work during the summer months
September 12, 200322 yr wow...great stuff guys, thanks a lot ;-)i'm currently following the advice of an old clock at Z ....so this question won't pop up from now on hehe...i'll join you guys on arrival in Tel Aviv...look for a dash 7 ;-)thanks again, and i hope you'll have loads of fun and flying tomorrow :-)
September 13, 200322 yr Well, a few solutions to your time problem. You can download and install ServInfo which has a function to tell you the current local time and the current time in three other cities.I personally use Symmtime; a free desktop utility which not only tells you the time in up to 24 cities but can also synchronize your system clock by automatically linking to an official time server. Check it out at http://216.26.171.146/SymmTime2003.exe
September 16, 200322 yr Hey Stiffy,Long time no see on VATSIM. We missed you last week.Tell us more about Symmtime. I am still using Tardis which suits my needs for the most part. And I have one of those fancy watches that Mark talked about. But I never turn my head from new software. Are there little clocks you can keep open on the screen or how do you access the world times?Mike
September 19, 200322 yr Hi Mike,I think a picture will do much more than words in this case. Here's a snapshot of my current setup for SymmTime. This defaults to the upper right hand corner of my screen but you can also set it up to run in the QuickLaunch bar.http://forums.avsim.net/user_files/37741.jpgYou can add up to 24 clocks and there are countless options for font, clock style, etc. Since our conversation about clocks a few months ago, I've tried a number of clock utilities including Tardis and this is the absolutely best one in my opinion.Symmtime is set to access any one of a number of official Time servers at any interval of your choosing. So your computer clock can always be set precisely. I haven't flown on VATSIM probably since all the passwords were changed. For some reason I dont have the interest I once had; on the rare occasions I fly I tend to stay offline and fly the Flight1 Piper Meridian. Maybe the PIC V2 might entice me.I was aware of the flight last Saturday and I wanted to participate but I thought it would conflict with the Michigan-Notre Dame football game and since I bleed Maize & Blue there was no way I was going to miss that game. It wasn't until much later that I realized it was the second game of a triple-header; but by then it was too late to catch up with you guys. I did follow your progress for a while through ServInfo though.
September 19, 200322 yr Thanks Stiff, I just installed on all three computers and I love it as it is much more functional that the other program I had been using.Logon when you can,Mike
September 19, 200322 yr Great...its a nice little utility. The only thing missing is an alarm function.
