September 15, 200322 yr Hi,Don't you believe that the forthcoming networked gauges will open an extraordinary new field especially for VATSIM and other virtual airlines?. Is it a crazy idea to think about a pilot instructor sitting in the co-pilot seat and supervising a would-be pilot all using networked gauges. One could think about the training possibilites, rating possibilities, setting of unusual situations (sudden malfunctions set by the instructor) etc.... I believe it will be a tremendous opportunity for VATSIM. Mike, I know you are fully booked but let me tell you it would be sad if VATSIM were to miss this opportunity.Michael
September 15, 200322 yr indeedme likes that idea aswell :Dflying together with a fellow PIC-er must be amazing, though an MCC course should be prepared for that as otherwise things could end up messy ;)GreetzPS: oh yeah, and when YOU mess up the landing, the other one also gets the blame :-pGreetz
September 15, 200322 yr Just the news of the new version are great news! The networked gauges will take the sim to new heights! But please, don't talk about 'training'. 'Some' may read it as a threat (you know what I mean!) and may try to 'fix' it. ;-) They did it before! (see FS2002).Getting serious now, this feature would/will be great. But what worries me is the silence from 'The Team'.George DorkofikisAthens, Greece
September 15, 200322 yr Actually, I like the fact that they did it this way. They were free from outside distraction, demands for release dates, pushing, hack attempts, etc etc etc and could develop the product at their own pace.....
September 15, 200322 yr George, I don't understand "silence" from the team. I hope you listen to the radio show? I mentioned that Wade had talked to me and said that the new version was in the archives of this forum. All we needed to do is a search. I was just re-telling the old news. But it still is real great to have a healthy confirmation. The team developing the version 2 didn't have to say anything really. They are free to eloborate on it, yet I believe the timely word is an encouragement to rest, knowing that it is coming, and to silence those that complain that the release from 1998 is not working in 2003. PIC V2 will be well worth the wait. Now, we all should be looking for that second, third and fourth computer to handle the new network pic ;)"Honey. Can I have the Visa please?"
September 15, 200322 yr I can remember a time back when Wade posted a note, and kinda saying that a new version would work better with full blown cockpits and things, I read this as to meaning that there might be good possibilites that they were working on something.Sometimes one just has to READ ;)And to Mike B. I am doing my 2nd flight online this am (UUDD-EGLL) not that good at it yet, but not as hard as I thought, still need lots of practice :) Maybe I'll get to join you guys one day online.BrianHey how do I get a status indicator to go here?
September 15, 200322 yr I am glad you took the bait Brian. Now your hooked!Just be careful in your early days with VATSIM flying into EGLL. If they are busy there, your learning experiance could get very stressful.Have Fun!Mike
September 15, 200322 yr There is much to learn about the function of network gauges. Obviously, this is going to be PIC V2 specific and the overhead data flow will not be carried through the VATSIM servers. For this to work for on-line flying, a second network connection would have to be either joined to the client's session, or a completely separate DLL will have to manage it (perhaps something on the order of the way FSNavigator links to FS). Since we currently have no idea how the PIC V2 developers are setting up the network gauge functionality, we would not be able to theorize any further.Having said all of that, I am excited as can be about the new possibilities.
September 15, 200322 yr Well ok I am not going to make my 2nd flight online LOL. MSK wanted it in metric and a FP that I didnt understand and ROFL I cant read the russian charts LOL. Think maybe I better stick to Western Europe and maybe US.Brian
September 15, 200322 yr Brian, try and join us at the weekend for the BBALL Run flights, we will make sure you get on okay.BTW Heathrow can be a zoo at times on Vatsim.
September 15, 200322 yr It would make sense that they do a client-server setup. One system is a host, and it has TCP/IP connections by either name or address from the remote guages, a-la broker for PS13. The PIC network guage wouldn't interoperate with VATSIM at all, it would just be another IP stream from your PC with a different destination. This will be great for home cockpits.
September 15, 200322 yr No, I'm sorry, I did not listen to the radio show...You know here in Greece the best we have (that we can affort) is ISDN, not quite ideal for stream video/audio.My only source of information about PIC is this forum. Wades post was since Mar (or was it May?) that talked about a possibility of making PIC767 V2. After that, nothing official has been told.I'm glad, however, that Version 2 is near release (whenever that will be)George Dorkofikis
September 15, 200322 yr Hi Mike,Glad to see you share the excitement. Of course it is too soon to even think about data flows etc.. This will surely get smart brains running at high speed when time comes. My point was merely to raise interest on part of VATSIM.Michael
