Got back late last night, 2 hours on the ground in the A330 at EGLL while they tried to figure out why the #1 engine would not light up...after a dozen or so turns, a huge cloud of smoke pours out of it and away we go...comforting...used cost index 300 / Mach .83 but still missed the connection at Montreal...so we waited for the later flight which was, you guessed it, B763...a silver lining behind every cloud. Ended up with a "Deviation" after that problem resulting in a 120 ETOPS, the route changed and took longer to get home with the nasty weather over the UK through to 20 West.Pilot was very generous with charts/details, etc...will post the details later on, going flying now :-)The UK was a great trip, too bad about the price of most things, but we had fun none the less...and Brooklands museum is a fantastic place if you ever get the chance...will post some pics of the museum and the VC10 (VIP set up) donated by the Sultan of Oman in 1987...I also managed to upset the security by lowering the nose light on the Viscount, playing with the INS on the VC10, etc, etc, could not resist.TTFNRob.

Oil/Residual Fuel in the engine getting burned off during ignition.Always spectacular too watch. Really good on a cold day.Sometimes you get a HOT START from this.I remember seeing an Air Atlanta 747-200 having a HOT START. Nice 50ft flame out the back of the engine for about 10 seconds. Engine shutdown then restarted after the set period of time for a hot start.Rob, the problem can't have been too serious otherwise you would have been 60mins non ETOPS. Weather was real crap in the UK last night. We had 20 knots gusting 30 knots straight across the runway. Was described as real lumpy in the last 500ft by 1 757 Captain.Wait till you get to play with Haroon's new toys then.
