When to use aileron/rudder trim???

Featured Replies

Hi,I was wondering when do you use the aileron trim???Rudder trim is used during single engine operation, I guess. Thanks,

You (can) use both aileron and rudder trim together during single engine ops. You shouldn't add too much rudder trim as you'll just increase drag. Instead, apply rudder trim until the ball is almost centered. Now the aircraft won't fly straight - it'll turn towards the dead engine so you apply a little bit of aileron trim until she flies straight.Just make sure you don't apply aileron trim if the AP is on! As there is no indicatation of aileron trim when the AP is on, as soon as you turn it off, the yoke will "jump" to the new center which could be very dangerous!Regards,Mark

Thanks allot Mark!!But sometimes you see the aileron droop at parking stand. Why is that??

I believe the droop while parked is because the hydraulics are off.

That could be but I recently watched this video from ITVV:http://www.itvv.co.uk/uleb767300er.aspAnd when they starting to taxi and doing there flightcontrols you clearly can see the inboard ailerons droop. And as far as I know, the hyd. are opperative when taxiing. Otherwhise it would be wrong!! :(And in the Level-D promo video you also can see the aileron droop. Thanks for the fast reply,

They also droop when flaps 5 set.

Yeh, that could be it.Thanks Mike.

Yeah, I've also noticed that on the ITVV video. By the way, if anybody hasn't gotten that video, I can tell you that it is well worth the price. Capt. David Henry and Co-pilot Norman Port do one helluva job in explaining everything from planning to landing the flight from Gatwick,UK to KMCO, Orlando, FL....Anybody know of any other video's that are worth their price and are extremely informative in regards to flight operations in general ??Regards, jack

I personally find the ITVV DVDs to be good in that respect that they are explanatory of many things including the pre-flight briefing. Some include simulator sections where different things are explained and shown that can

Hi Jack,I just ordered the ITVV Airtours B757-200 video from Manchaster to Dalaman.I think it will worth the price aswell.BTW. When you see the aileron droop on the ITVV video that's because they dropped the flaps to 5.

I have that video! First one I ever ordered. Captain Rex Taylor does a pretty decent job of explaining EFIS/EICAS and other topics. Like mentioned above, it starts from Preflight to Shutdown - not dark startup. But I review this tape often - kind of gets me in the mood to go fly!Neil
