flightplans for Qantas B763ER and......

Featured Replies

Hello,Does someone knows the destinations for the Qantas B763ER???Then I had another question regarding the "IRS NAV ONLY" message.Does the IRS NAV ONLY message only occurs in the AIR or can it also be generated on the ground after IRS alignment. Thanks,

IRS Nav Only means that the FMS and other navigation systems can't pick up 2 VOR-DME's in range, this can be due to being in a remote area such as the ocean, where such navaids are rare and far apart, or with the computer, if the Navdata is out of date/corrupt and there are VOR-DME's in range, just that the computer doesn't know theyre there/know the correct frequency for them.I have flown reicently on a Qantas 767-338ER (VH-OG*) between Sydney and Melbourne. The route was as follows (this is off a current H1 chart)YSSY - YMMLSY WOL Q38 TAREX MLThe SID out of SY depends on the runway used. It can be for Runway 16R a DEENA3 departure, WOL transition. off 34L a WOL9 departure, out of 34R a MARUB3 departure WOL transition. out of runway 07 a FISHA4 departure WOL transition and out of runway 25 the SYDNEY1 departure Radar transition (Runway heading to 800ft or above, then radar vectors to WOL). Transitioning to WOL is not available off runway 16L, except via the SYDNEY1 radar vectors, and is very unusual to recieve (usually takeoff on 16R if using the 16's direction if heading south)Into Melbourne you will usually use the NAREL2 arrival STAR, this star has transitions to runway 34, 16 or 27. Runway 09 is not used for 767's almost ever. Sometimes aircraft of 767 and larger size are given the ARBEY1 arrival into runway 34, however when I flew last time on the 767, we flew the NAREL2 into 34. Note the approach into 34 has no ILS and is a visual approach from overhead Essington ES/YMES. You must fly overhead Essington at above 2500 and this is a little high on a standard glideslope. In all the time that I'v spent with Melbourne Airport, I'v never seen or heard of a jet landing on runway 09.Distance is 386nm, usual altitudes will be either FL340 FL360 or FL380 depending on weight. My flight was on FL380, Mach 0.80 in cruise. The return flight is viaML DOSEL Y59 RIVET SYthe DOSEL2 departure is valid for all the usual 3 runways (16, 34, 27) at melbourne. The STAR at SY is the RIVET8 arrival (might be RIVET 9 now) and is valid for all runways, and basically consists of an altitude restriction and instruction to expect radar vectors. All of the STARS at YSSY consist of radar vectors for the runways. This is due to the need to sequence by the ATC and the parallel runways being an issue to consider. Distance is the same.

The majority of qantas 767 flights are from Melbourne to sydney (YMML-YSSY). Some services then extend to Brisbane. Of course there is Australian airlinesThere are also some qantas 767's (operated by air pacific, but in qantas colors) that go to nadi.

>Does the IRS NAV ONLY message only occurs in the AIR or can it also be generated on the ground after IRS alignment.Interesting question, Ramon.(On the real aircraft) I don't think I have ever seen the IRS ONLY message on the ground, but I don't know why. Nav updating is not done on the ground (except for GPS updating, which could also be considered "nav updating"). You would expect to see an IRS ONLY message on those aircraft which don't have GPS updating, but, as I said, I have never seen this message (either on aircraft with or without GPS).You may be correct about the air only logic....otherwise the IRS ONLY message logic would have to be very complex indeed.Note that the FMC still carries out autotuning of VOR and DME stations on the ground. It just doesn't use the data from these stations for updating at this time. In fact, I believe the aircraft has to be a certain height above the stations before it will use the data.Unfortunately, this is the sort of question which you may not find an answer to... for proprietary reasons (Boeing and Honeywell may want to keep it a secret).Re Qantas' real life routes.... It might be a little tedious, but you might like to try the Qantas website.... www.qantas.com.au. Information is usually given regarding the aircraft type on a particular route. All Qantas' 767's are now 767-300ER's.Note that most of Qantas' 767's and 747-400's share a common Nav Database (even though they often fly to different places), so even if you could read the data in the FMC, it wouldn't tell you where only their 767's fly. Cheers.Ian.

There are heaps of places the good old 767's fly for Qantas and its subsidary Aussie AirlinesCairns - Tokyo, Nagoya, Hong Kong, Singapore, Osaka, Fukuoka, Sapporo, Brisbane, SydneySydney - Melbourne, Brisbane, Perth, Hong Kong, Singapore, Auckland, Christchurchand the list goes on....Liam
