how does the LDS767 perform on multimonitor-setup ?

Featured Replies

Hi there,Are there any beta-testers around using the LDS767 in a multimonitor setup? E.g. the fmc and the overhead on different monitors. I'm very interested in your experiences because FS2004 is in my opinion in such an environment more difficult to use compared to fs2002 !! A lot of problems are reported with other add on packages! Please surprise us pleasently! Thanks for answering,Jeroen op den Akker

Please surprise us pleasently! What exactly are the problems being reported? I run FS2004 with 3 graphic cards supporting 4 monitors: 1 AGP card running a single monitor dedicated to the 3D outside view. 2 other PCI cards support 3 monitors that run in 2d mode with only basic h/w acceleration (necessary to prevent stutters). Of the three 2d monitors, 2 monitors are dedicated to the left and right halves of the MIP, and 1 dedicated to primary display of the FMC and TQ (side-by-side), with the ability to toggle overlays of the overhead or comm panel as required.I've been running this setup for over a year with no problems. The key to this setup was to disable all but basic h/w acceleration on the PCI graphic cards. Also, I am not running in full-screen mode as there are issues in this mode (mostly horrible framerates and the need to reposition panels on each FS load). The setup I use results in good overall frame rates (there is about an 8 FPS hit between running a single h/w accelerated outside view and running the outside view with the 3 2d panels). The benefits of running this setup is the MIP displays are approximately 90% full scale in size (when using 19" monitors). Makes for a great sense of cockpit/situational immersion. As an aside: I'm very interested in networked panel display capabilities, as is done now by Project Magenta, becoming either a feature of LDS767 (there was some talk of a 'networked gauge' concept), or as part of the core flight sim engine. We will see how this turns out ... I believe such a capability is the next major step forward for flight sim. Until such a capability is implemented, I am very pleased with the setup I currently operate.-michael

Hi,I run multiple monitors. I haven't seen any problems.Tero

Jaaky,I see you are running a GeForce4 MX4000. I'm considering picking up a couple with dual-head capability. How do you like the card?BTW: I recently upgraded to a GeForce 6800 Ultra and ran into a strange situation. My previous setup was a Ti4600 AGP, FX5200 PCI, and MX440-8x PCI. When I upgraded to the 6800U I would get BSOD during installation of the drivers or during bootup after installation. The dump information pointed at the FX5200. However, the FX5200 worked fine if the 6800U was disabled and the 6800U worked fine if the FX5200 was disabled. The only drivers that allowed simultaneous use was the 66.31 version. So, I installed my spare MX440 - and everything works fine regardless of driver. So - I'm trying to avoid the FX5200 card.Thanks.-michael

Thank you you all for answering,.....good to hear these setups work fine!!Still some questions left:-how about resizing the secondary screens on for example a small 5 inch tv used for the FMC ? -anybody flying in full screen mode with multiple monitors?-looks there are no problems with nvidia-setup. Anybody of you flying around with multiple ATI radeon-cards ? Thanks again,Jeroen op den Akker

Hi Michael,My MX4000 is the PCI version and I use it only for the monitor that shows my FMC and throttle Quadrant. The card works flawless.BTW leaving this forum and for the new LevelD Simulation one:-walksmile

Hi,I am flying with a 4 monitor setup with PIC767 since 2003. With FS2002 there were no problems. I have set it up in window mode because full sreen mode is much slower (with my hardware, may be different with other hardware) and window mode has slightly better 3d grafics. Also in full creen mode you can't stretch the main panel over 2 monitors.I tried FS2004 in window mode with default aircraft and with 767PIC. Both worked in multi monitor configuration, but I got terrible stutters every 10 seconds, freezing the screen for 1 - 2 seconds and producing sound distortions like a machine gun. In full screen mode I got no stutters but slower fps + the disatvantages mentioned above. There was no way to get rid of the stutters in FS2004 window mode. I can't disable the hardware acceleration for only one or all 3 additional montiors. Disabling only one causes FS 2004 to start in 3d-software mode, resulting in getting 1-2 fps and no real 3d. Settings in WIN XPpro, BIOS, latency timers etc. didn't help.Configuration: P4 1,5 GHZ, Asus P4T, 756 MB RDRAM, GF2-MX-400 Dual Mon. AGP, 2 x GF TNT M64 PCI, SB live 5.1, Win XPpro, 1 monitor for outside view and MCP, 2 monitors for main instrument panel, 1 monitor for FMC and pedestal, overhead is dispayed on monitor 1 when needed. As you see there may be problems with nvidia setups, but there may be also problems with ATI or others. It may also depend to your motherboard. I don't know, why it workes on other systems to disable the hardware acceleration for the second and other monitors and doesn't work on my PC. -------------------------------------------------------------------If anybody knows the reason or a solution, please tell me!!!-------------------------------------------------------------------Because a crash of the PC above I now have a new system with following specs: P4 550 3,4 Ghz, MSI 865PE Neo3-F AGP Intel 865 MB, 1 GB DDR 400, MSI GF6600GT, Sparkle FX5200 PCI for 2 mon., Realtek ALC850 onboard sound, Win XPpro. The problem with FS2004 is still here. The stutters in window mode are now every 5 - 10 seconds, very short (1/2 second or less) but still annoying, sound stutters are gone when hardware acceleration is disabled. FS2002 running very fast and perfect in any way. I installed the LevelD 767 and it works in the same monitor configuration and in window mode. Because there is no panel bitmap and CFG of the main panel for streching across 2 monitors until now, I streched the normal LDS panel across the 2 monitors. I didn't try, but I think, it will also work in full screen mode, but it will be much slower fps.Certainly you can use a 5" TV for the FMC. But therefor you need another videocard, if you want to display the pedestal too. You can resize and position the FMC window for displaying only the FMC screen on the TV. I have a 17" flat screen CRT monitor in my pedestal, showing the whole FMC in real size, with an selfbuild FMC-keyboard with an cutout for the FMC screen placed on the monitor screen. This works with a keyboard chip or keyboard encoder and Key2mouse. If you want to use a TV, look at Nico Kaan's internet site: http://home.planet.nl/~nwkaan/No good news, but I hope it helps! Perhaps FS2006 has such a good multimonitor support as FS2002 already had.Tony
