November 15, 200223 yr Hi folks,Just recently took the plunge and setup my laptop as a second computer using WideFS. I'm using FS2002, SB for 2002, the latest WideFS and FSUIPC. I've installed Wide Server on my main PC and Wide Client on my Laptop. Setup SB, FSMETEO, etc on my laptop. Made the WideFSVer=3 entry in the SB ini file. Everything works fine with the following two exceptions which I'm hoping someone can help me with.1. No SB Sounds (Message Alert, TCAS). Sounds are turned on in the options. The actual sound files are located in the c:Program Filessquawkbox directory. I've tried toggling this setting off and back on again with no luck.2. Once in a while my winds seem to get "stuck" in the sim. For example my winds at cruise might be 100kts. This same wind speed will follow me right down to the ground instead of changing to reflect surface winds. When this happens quitting and restarting FSMETEO has no effect.Any help would be much appreciated. Thanks,
November 15, 200223 yr Hi MikeUnfortunately I can't help you but I can confirm the #1 problem. I have SB on a second PC and don't have any sound from SB. Occasionaly I get it when switching to the WideClient window though!!!What version of SB are you using? I think I've seen a recommendation you use 2.3.4 even if you run FS2002 on the main machine. I have 2.3.5 though.regards Mats JohanssonPMDG Flight Test Dept | Asus Z270-A | Intel i5-7600K @ 4.8 GHz OC/H2O | nVidia Geforce GTX 1070 8GB OC/O2|
November 16, 200223 yr I think I solved it... at least for me. The Wide Client window must be active in order to hear the SB sounds. If the Wide Client window is minimized or behind another window (not active) then no sounds are heard. Odd....
November 18, 200223 yr Yes, that's exactly right. The wideclient window has to be active to hear the SB sounds. How are you enjoying SB with WideFS?I started using it about 2 years ago. Don't know how folks can fly without it!!James
November 19, 200223 yr I can confirm that this happens for me to (sound only if the WideClient window is the active window).Anyone have a reason/fix? Not that it's a major problem - it's so much easier to have SB on a different PC than the one actually running FS, but it would be nice to have sounds without having to remember to click on the WideClient screen when done sending a message..Thnks in advance!P
November 24, 200223 yr The same thing happens to me when I use SB on a second system. I've used both versions of SB and get the same results. I also use advdisp so I can have the text messages show up on my second computer if I'm surfing the internet. If I use SB 2.3b4 I can get the chimes when I have the Wideclient box on top but like you guys have reported, if I have something else selected, then I loose the chimes. SB2.3b4 doesn't work with Advdisp either. I like using Advdisp because I can use the show text box and have it always stay on top and see when messages are comming in when I'm surfing or doing other things. I have to us SB 2.3b5 for FS2002 for this to work but then I loose the chimes. The only work around I have come up with is, the new version of Show Text in the Advdisp program now allows sounds to be played when a text message comes across. I have it linked to my SB sounds for now. The only draw back is, it chimes when all text messages come across. I've gone as far as installing SB2.3b5 and then swaping out the SB.exe with the version from SB2.3b4. This works for a few minutes then I get a Multiplayer.dll error. Has anyone come up with a work around. It sure would be nice to have the chimes again when I'm on those long, late night flight and I fall asleep in my chair :-) to be able to know when I'm being called. I would also like the adventure display to work.
