November 13, 200421 yr Hi everyone.Just to add to the list of problems with SB can anyone help me with this one. I've been trying unsuccessfully to connect to VATSIM for several weeks. After reading several tutorials, all saying different things, I nearly got there. My first problem was the "forcefully disconnected" issue. Seems what I was told about putting 127.0.0.1 into the IP address box when searching for games to join was directing SB to look for my PC as the server when trying to connect! However, if I leave the box blank as advised in VATSIM 103D, SB searches for eternity with no result. My other problem is that when SB starts it says I am missing CSL_ICAO.CSV. I know it's in the SB directory and I've copied it to FS9/Aircraft. I've got all the required software, files, etc. Can anyone please help. Happy landings.Mal.
November 14, 200421 yr CSL_ICAO.CSV - Copy it to your FS9AircraftCSL folder if that does not fix it try and starting SB by its exe file in its folder, do not use a desktop short or start menu short cut. Some people have to start like that or they get the CSV file error everytime. Like me :(Do you have a router? And what anti-vuris and firewall are you using. You should not have to enter anything in that IP box for SB to find the SBrelay host. If it works when you do, some thing is running in the back ground causing problems that is why you get forcefully disconnected sometimes.
November 14, 200421 yr Thanks for the advice Dave. Copied file, etc. but still getting the message when I load a SB plan.Have tried turning anti-virus off (AntiVir) and firewall (XP SP2) but still no luck! Not sure what you mean by a router? (not 100% comp savvy) My ISP is Wanadoo and I'm not on a network or anything like that. Any other suggestions (apart from waiting for SB3!!) greatly appreciated.
November 15, 200421 yr Have you tryied starting SB but clicking directly on the SB.exe file, find it via your Windows Explorer. Don't use a short cut or start bar link. That fixed the problem for me.
November 16, 200421 yr >Have you tryied starting SB but clicking directly on the>SB.exe file, find it via your Windows Explorer. Don't use a>short cut or start bar link.>>That fixed the problem for me.This thing can be so easily avoided by fixing one thing on the shortcut..See the attached image. Right click on your shortcut and select properties...make sure the "start in" directory matches the location where your Squawkbox directory (and the CSL_ICAO.dat file, should be the same) resides.
November 16, 200421 yr Thanks for the advice guys but I'm afraid I've tried all that with no success. I've even just done a complete uninstall and clean install of all associated programs including FS9 and I still can't get SB to find a game without entering 127.0.0.1 in the Locate Session box. If I enter my own PC IP address, or press cancel, I can get SB to run. When I load a SB flight plan it still tells me I'm missing CSL_ICAO.csv. I can then connect to a particular server such as UK-1 by entering their IP address as shown on ServInfo. Any further ideas???
November 16, 200421 yr Make sure the CSL_ICAO.csv file is in Squawkbox folderFS9AircraftFS9AircraftCSLwhen you did the clean install did you delete the SB folder and the CSL folder?
November 17, 200421 yr Have checked locations of .csv file and it is where you say it should be but still no luck. When I did the un-install I removed all traces of SB, FS9, SBRelay, etc (apart from any registry entries). After re-installing I double checked that the XP Firewall had them listed correctly as exceptions.I've tried running the SBHost.exe instead of the .dll version but still the same regarding both the .csv file and the failure to find the session. As I said previously I've also turned both firewall and antivirus off with no change. ?????
November 18, 200421 yr Hiya,>When I load a SB flight plan it still tells me I'm missing CSL_ICAO.csv.This always indicates that you are starting Squawkbox from a desktop symbol (link) which hasn Cheers, Martin Georg/EDDF Contributing editor, FS-Magazin
November 20, 200421 yr Hi Guys. Thanks for all the info. Looks like my CSL_ICAO.csv problem was caused by loading the SB plans from the BVAir directory I have. This OK now. Anyone any ideas on the finding game issue? If I connect to the network by typing in the IP address of, say, UK-1 if I'm flying from EGLL can I fly and get transferred to one of the other servers for Europe or any other region or will I have to type in their IP addresses as required?
November 21, 200421 yr You dont have to change it at all, no matter where you fly. Ill usually connect to the USA-W server, even if I fly in Europe. This doesnt make much of a difference.
November 21, 200421 yr "Anyone any ideas on the finding game issue?"I think we have to clear up something here first.Where are you entering this IP address? Is it in the window that asked where to search for multi-player games, in the first few steps of SB starting? When this white box opens you don't need to put anthing there, unless you are using FS2002 then enter the FS Multi-player IP address there.Read the Vatsim 103 docs at www.vatsim.net/prc they will clear this up.
November 24, 200421 yr Dave.Yes it's in the search for multi-player games window. I know according to the VATSIM docs that you do not have to put anything in there for FS9 although some tutorials say it can be needed. If I don't put 127.0.0.1 in, SB will not find the session created in FS9/SBRelay. Entering my own PC address enables me to continue and sort and out a flight plan, etc. as in 103D but when I come to connect, my own IP address is in the "Internet Address of Server" box of the "Connect to PC/SB" window. Manually entering the IP address of a VATSIM server enables me to connect.Malcolm
November 25, 200421 yr It sounds like your server list is just of date.Start Servinfo, click on the IP button below the Vatsim button and save that file to your SB folder. that will give you the most up todate servers. No need to enter an IP be hand after that.Just to make sure, you are entering this on the connect to the network page that ask for your Vatsim ID and Password.
