April 13, 200521 yr I was planning flight from EPKK to EGKK and this is what the controller had as his ATIS=== This line is hidden by the Controller ===Krakow APP, INFO PEPKK expect vectors for ILS/DME 25, dep 25EPKT expect vectors for ILS 27, dep 27POSSIBLE DELAY DUE TO BLOODY NEWBIES INVASIONI am sorry that i am new to your airport and causing everyone to be delayed. I did not do my flight as I dont feel welcome at EPKK, and if this continues i will be off to IVAO where i would expect a more civil welcome even though i have nearly 300 hours of flying with VATSIMVery annoyedJohn CallejaBAW352 John Calleja
April 13, 200521 yr I agree, thats un-called for. But you'll get nowhere by posting such a topic in here. First, it would be more professional and worthwhile if you brought this problem up to the ARTCC chief or commander directly...not in a public forum. Secondly, VASTIM has an official forum for all vatsim users. Go to www.vatsim.net and click on "forums" . Posting threads like this wont get a warm response though, because airing other peoples dirty laundry before going through the proper chain of command is well... bad form.
April 14, 200521 yr uncalled for but sadly similar to things I've experienced in the past. Some controllers (a minority but they do seem concentrated in Europe) seem to be on a massive powertrip and care only about bossing people around. Some of them are extremely rude to inexperienced pilots.Main culprits seem to be Dutch and UK controllers, but apparently Polish controllers aren't immune.
April 14, 200521 yr Dear John,I apologise for your impressions regarding Polish ATC service coming from reception of this ATIS message. We strive to be as friendly to newcomers as practically possible. It is not the unexperienced, but hard working people who make us sometimes exhausted. Yesterday I witnessed a pilot who took off from active runway straight into landing traffic and later was unable to proceed to a point included in his own flight plan. All he could say to explain his behaviour was that TWR logged off. I also had to refuse an ATC clearance to a pilot who did not understand the concept of readback but still wanted to fly from a very busy airport. On the same evening I witnessed many newcomers really doing their best and making significant improvements in their skills in their first flights, strongly supported by patient ATCOs.I realise that some of my younger colleagues are not as calm and as patient as others are, and I will ask all PL-VACC ATCOs to refrain from similar messages in their ATIS. Sometimes we must be unfriendly to those violating the rules, who simply don't understand that their behaviour is disrupting and frustrating for other members of the simulation. Please be assured that our approach to those willing to learn is as friendly as possible. Among other things, PL-VACC runs a pilot academy where experienced pilots help newbies interested in our support.best regards,Michal RokPL-VACC Director
April 14, 200521 yr Author Thank you jrwenting, for confirming that you also have had similar experience previously, and a special thanks top Michael Rok, for the apology and explaination that you gave. So I need to reply to VCAir_VP, sorry I cant reply by name as you didn't put your name to your post. Firstly just for your information I did copy the original post to Vatsims organisers and await their reply, so guess that makes it professional and worthwhile. Secondly you say that posting here would not get a warm response, well that was not the purpose of the post, but as it has turned out, i got a very warm response from PL-VACC Director and that is the response that I would have expected from an organisation with the reputation of VATSIM. so the purpose of the post has been fullfilled, so I don't consider it to be bad form to post on a subject of general civility.John CallejaBAW352 John Calleja
April 14, 200521 yr John,First off, let me introduce myself. My name is Chad Black and I have been a member of VATSIM for many years (before it was even called VATSIM), and am the co-founder of Virtual Continental Airlines. I was not attacking you nor pointing the finger at you in any way, I think you misunderstood my post. In the past I have done exactly what you did in the above post. Vented my frustrations on the public forums, only to later find out that it only made more people upset with me. The response from the Polish controller was a very generous one. I'm sure had you just waited a bit longer, someone would have replied to you
April 16, 200521 yr A good tip I always give people who want to start out is to find a quiet spot with no ATC available and try out the software for a while. Then find a place where there is ATC but they're not busy and TELL THEM you're inexperienced.Only when you feel confident you know the procedures should you enter busy airspace (and even then you might want to instead give some business to a lonely controller somewhere in a backwater).
May 4, 200521 yr >>Main culprits seem to be Dutch and UK controllers, but apparently Polish controllers aren't immune.Hello I have been a controller and pilot in the UK on VATSIM for over two years and never experienced or heard of this. Could I have some examples to back up what you are saying please?
