October 15, 200223 yr Hello,I have 2 computers and 3 monitors, goflight modules and aerosoft MCP747... Anyone knows if it's possible to run Project Magenta in the same computer that runs FS2002 ? I have a GF4TI4200 dual head, but OpenGL performance looks bad using the same video board..maybe it's better to add another video card ?In my other computer I did some tests with Magenta and FreeFD and both runs fine, but I'm not sure what is the best panel setup I can get...any suggestion ?I'm not sure if I undock panel or if I use magenta...I was thinking in a setup like this:Machine 1:XP2000 GF4 2 monitorsFS + undocked panel (which panel / aircraft ?)Machine 2:PIII700 GF2 1 monitormagenta or FreeFDAny ideas please ?How to windows / FS remember the last windows positions ?Thanks,Ulisses
October 16, 200223 yr Ulissesall the information you need you can find it in Project Magenta's site(www.projectmagenta.com) You have to download and read the manual, it is in pdf format. Now i will try to help you with my short experience in Project Magenta.A "normal" hardware setup for PM is:1st PC: For FS2002 (with the setup you like)2nd PC: For Glass Cockpit PFD & ND (Must support OpenGL)3rd PC: For Glass Cockpit Engines Display (OpenGl needed)4th PC: For FMC/MCDU5th PC: For MCPOf course you can "run" only with 1 PC with 2 monitors, or with 6 PCs if you want to split PFD & ND in 2 monitors It depends on your choice for monitor's size (and money too !!)I have in this time 4 PCs and i will try to find other one to make them 5 at least. With your configuration I suggest:1st PC: in 1st monitor FS2002 with high accelerationin 2nd monitor MCP s/w running minimized as you have Aerosoft's 747MCP to control it and also FMC in full size.2nd PC: Glass Cockpit (PFD & ND)OAL331Athens-Greece
October 16, 200223 yr Author Thanks !I saw an option to run PFD, ND and Engine in one display...any problem with this setup in a 17" monitor ?What do you think about not using magenta but the aircraft undocked panels, like 767PIC or dreamfleet ?Ulisses
October 16, 200223 yr In my opinion, you must have 2 computers, one for PFD & ND and the second for Standby Gauges & Engines DisplayTrust me it'is amazing! That you are saying for undocked panels, is only working in one pc with multi display monitors, but........., with this solution your main pc will be very slow and heavy. Or you must have wideview and many pcs with the same configuration as the 1st one and with all the programs installed. So Project Magenta is the best solution for this you want to make!OAL331Athens-Greece
October 17, 200223 yr Author Ok...Here is my idea:Computer 1:Athlon XP 2000, 512mb, GF4 TI4200 (dual head)Monitor 1 (20"): Main FS Outside viewMonitor 2 (13"): Magenta FMS (I think it's 2D, so no performance drop)Computer 2:PIII 700, GF2 MX400 32mb (AGP), GF2 MX400 64mb (PCI)Monitor 1 (17"): Project Magenta PFD & NDMonitor 2 (17"): Project Magenta EnginesWhat do you think ?Thanks,Ulisses
October 17, 200223 yr Ulisses, I merely support with your opinion about Project magenta on PC2.... If you re using two PDFs for captain and co pilot.. I would recommend you to stick with the last experiment you did. Because the first experiment I did was, adding 2 pfd on same computer (PC2)and seperate 17" monitor. There were 2 bad results I have been getting... The first result was, It put so much trouble with the frame rates, eventhough I slotted the GeForce3. And the second resuly was, I couldn't flip over the ND/FD opposite from captain's side PDF otherwise both would have flipped over the same. Then I went on with another experment and was successful. a PFD and a Engine w/standby gauges would have worked better than having 2 PDFs on same computer.
October 20, 200223 yr Author I was doing some tests here with magenta:1) I tried to run FS and magenta FMS in the same machine (GF4ti 2 monitors), it runs fine, but I can't find a way to mouse control the FMS without leave FS20022) Then I tried to run FS and magenta Standby&Engines in the same computer, magenta is OK, but in FS I got a small performance drop...and I don't want it...3) What do you think about have a PIII700 with 2 gforces and 1 pci video card to run 3 monitors: 1- PFD & ND (gforce agp)2- Standby Gauges & Engines Display (gforce pci)3- FMS (standard pci video)Should work, or it is too much tasks for a PIII ?Thanks again,Ulisses
