FsBus & IAS-MACH Display / V/S

Featured Replies

As the project is in developing, i have more & more things to face for my first time! Now, my question is if it's possible with FsBus Display to see the IAS in mach, when MACH is enable.I made some attemps with Fsbus2, but the display was changing for a moment in MACH and was returning back in Knots (250). Is there something else i have to do to force it display the Mach (.43) ? The second thing is that i noticed some values working fine in std Fs2002 values/offsets and not in PM's. The example is the vertical speed. In PM when V/S is minus there is a big problem, when at the same time in std FS is working fine. Also i noticed that when i change in Pm th V/S i have the same values in std FS2002, so i can use the FS2002's display for V/S. Right?ThanksEddie ArmaosAthens-Greece

Hi Eddie, this extra logic for Mach/IAS is ready. The PM things are in work. I planned, to wait until both things are ready. If that's too long, there will be an interim solution w.o. PM.kind regards Dirk

Hi Dirk,Is it true that you redesign the COM board? I'm about to etch the FSBUS boards next week and wondered if I had to wait a bit for a newer version. Also, as I posted in another thread a few days ago...The SPD/Mach window on the MCP requires the decimal to be displayed when in Mach mode and no decimal in SPD mode.FSBUS does not support the decimal point in the 7segment displays by software. We have to hardwire the dot point via a resistor. My question is :Will it work if I use a LED output to enable or disable the dot?I mean to program a LED to turn on when in MACH mode and off while in SPD mode, and wire that output to the 7Segment display's dot.Theoretically both the LED and the display use the same voltage so it shouldn't be a problem. As I can see it in this case we don't even need the extra resistor for the dot point of the display.Any comments and/or suggestions?George DorkofikisAthens, Greece

Thanks Dirk for your reply,if there is something you can do to help you, just ask it!!Best regardsEddie

Hi George, yes, i am working on a new COM board. The reasons are:- There is need for additional power (lamps, motors). I plan to use a a pc power supply.- the next boards will contain a 16f627. They are cheaper and offer many advantages. That microcontroller requires a different flash hardware.- next month, elektor magazine will show a cheap USB interface. Maybe it is usefull. This new COM is very experimental state today. The next important step is the readyness of version 2 router software. The new COM board will be compatible to old controller boards. About decimal point:I have to think about dynamic decimal point. For using LED output you need an additional transistor, because LED and display modules are time multiplexed and don't run synchronous. Since i will have the same problem, when building my MCP, i'll show you a solution later.kind regards Dirk

Great news Dirk!Thank you for your reply. I'm progressing very slowly here, but I will not put on hold since the existing controller boards will be compatible. Because I'm going so slooowwww, maybe you'll catch up with me and I'll end up using the new board instead! Who knows?!Once again, thanks for all your efforts and for sharing with the rest of us.Best regards,George DorkofikisAthens, Greece

Have a look at my temporary solution to the desimal point problem. I am using the two free wires in the cable between the Display controller and the Display board to carry the no. 3 and 4 decimal point inputs. On my redesigned Display Controller, I can either strap the connection, or use relay contacts of a Digital Outputs board to select the decimal points if needed.Looking forward to a more elegant solution from Dirk! :-)Vidar

>- next month, elektor magazine will show a cheap USB>interface. Maybe it is usefull. Is this a USB to FSBUS interface?Vidar

Yeap!...I did exactly the same thing via pin 6 of the connector which is unconnected. And I also use the small 7Seg displays 0.36".Soldering a resistor in the appropriate place on the board I can havethe point either on #3 or #4 display. But while this solution is ok for the radios and ADF, for the SPD/MACH you need to be able to toggle the dot on/off.George DorkofikisAthens, Greece

i am also waiting for the article in elektor. If it makes sense, i will integrate it into the new com board.Dirk
