USB or serial port

Featured Replies

Hi,Wanted to get an opinion on USB or serial port. I currently have a AFCSII Yoke which is serial port. It came with a throttle that connects via a y cable. My Ch pro pedals are USB. This setup works really well. I'm very happy with it-except for the throttle (nothing wrong with it-just want something more).I've been looking at the elite King Air stand alone throttle. It comes in two flavors: serial port or USB. I don't know for sure but it would seem that the serial port version would connect via the Y cable. There is a 50 dollar difference. Which do you think would be better overall and why? Thanks!Andy

Andy,I advise you to buy the USB version.First of all, a serial Y-cable (unlike a gameport Y-cable) is very special for a certain supplier, so your new throttle almost certainly cannot be connected to that.Secondly, USB (Universal Serial Bus) is just an enhanced, faster and more stable version of the the old COM port. And more future proof....Rob

I agree with Rob. USB is the way to go.John
