Headphone question.

Featured Replies

Hi all,I have been reading and getting ideas for my general cockpit for a long time now and have finally put together what works best for me.I'll post some picture as soon as I get a chance. I use this set up for flight sim and for work. Have to get the best for both worlds.Anyway, here is my question:Is there a way using headphones with mikes to have the pilot and co-pilot hear and talk to each other through those headphones. My set up is 6 monitors, 5 computers. Two monitors for the front view and panel gauges which is connected to my server computer using WidevieW. Then I have a front right and front left, a left and a right monitor, each running off their own computer. I hope thats clear. I'm running FS2004.Any help would be appreciated. Thanks,Gerry

you could use Rogerwilco running on two of the front computers, using the lan for voice transmissions, and headphones connected to each of those computers (cheapest, but would put an extra load on your network). Or you could go the real way, and get an aircrqaft intercom, two aviation headsets, and enjoy. Or you could buy a cheaper motorbike intercom and use it there.Hope it helps,Rafa.

You could always try buying 2 2-way jacks, ones where you plug in 2 stereo headsets and plug that to a single headphone socket. One for the earpieces and another for the mics. You may have to buy a couple of extension leads for them though, but it's the set-up I'm using, and works very well, and you only need one copy of RW running for them both

As this a headset question and please excuse me if this has been covered before. Is there anyway that it is possible to split a/c noise and only have atc only through the headset?Flyerian

Yes, run RW on a computer not running the sim

Gerry, I have tested the setup that Ceawlin has mentioned there, bascically connecting two sets of headsets to a single sound card with double adaptors, it works beatifully, I strongly suggest using identical headsets though.I tried with some dissimilar units & it wouldn't work properly, I think one set had a differnet type of mike in it.You need to make sure your mike is not muted on the output mixer screen, so you should be able to hear yourself through the phones when you talk.Glenn

Thanks guys,I'll give a try and let you know how it works out.I'll also get a picture up as soon as possible. Thanks,Gerry

>Is there anyway that it is possible to split a/c noise and>only have atc only through the headset?>>FlyerianAnother solution is to use a cheap second sound card in the same PC. So with the first/default sound card you can hear the FS sounds and with the 2nd the RW or AVC voice programsRegardsEddie ArmaosAthens-Greece

>Yes, run RW on a computer not running the simCealwinForgive my ignorance, but does this work on default systems ie. not VATSIM etc.ThanxFlyerian

Being a bit of a Thicko in all matters to do with the new fangled power system of electricity,, does this mean I add another card to my comp? I am currently building a generic 2 jet cockpit and it will run on 4 computers. No 1 will provide the view with an overhead projector and Fs 2004 this is a P4 3.02 with 1 gig of ram the other 3 will run the glass instruments and are running Win98.Flyerian

>Being a bit of a Thicko in all matters to do with the new>fangled power system of electricity,, does this mean I add>another card to my comp? >FlyerianAs we posted, there are 2 ways to do that you want. The first is to use another computer's sound card from your current setup with 4 PCs.My proposal was the 2nd way, to install another cheap sound card in your Main PC and use it for Roger Wilco or AVC. In both these programs you can define which sound card you are going to use, so you may have as primary the first one for FS and other sounds and the new second sound card for voice.Regards from snowing Athens!!Eddie ArmaosAthens-Greece

Here's another way.Use another computer with a sound card NOT RUNNING FS and use WideFS to handle the ATC and you main computer running FS to handle the engine sound.Gerry
