Home Cockpits & ATC?

Featured Replies

How does everyone with home cockpits deal with ATC?Obviously you cant use the traditional methods as having the menu projected on the outside screen, and needing a keyboard in your flight deck isnt exactly ideal.Do you just live without, or are there some good soloutions out there? Cheers :D

Yeah, and SquawkBox3. No need for a keyboard, only a head set and a Push To Talk switch.Nicowww.nicokaan.nl1704.png

I use real ATC with IVAO and IVAP software.www.ivao.orgYou've real person who speaks to you thru a netphone programm like Teamspeak and you just need a headset with mike and a pushbutton. That's really real ... when you start you can no more fly alone with the FS ATC.BOBPS you can really switch to the frequence using the FS radio andset the transponder code, ident or mode charly ...

>Yeah, and SquawkBox3. Thanks guys, much appreciated! We shall do that then, using REAL ATC :)A question though, our sim is in a youth organisation, and we will be teaching said youth's to fly with it, would the real ATC bods that run VATSIM etc get a bit funny with that? We are talking 13-20yr olds, obviously with a Flight Instructor on the FI station behind them.....Also, after scanning VATSIM etc, do we have to fly in air lanes etc, or is there freedom for us to fly where we want, for example a route from Lyneham to Valley, as we chose to? (Military Sim)Many thanks!

Many of the others are in the same age group too, though there are older people too of course. But it's a hobby anyway.>Also, after scanning VATSIM etc, do we have to fly in air>lanes etc, or is there freedom for us to fly where we want,>for example a route from Lyneham to Valley, as we chose to?>(Military Sim)You can see the vatsim / ivao FAQ's I guess about military ops, but basically, if you want to have ATC, you probably want to fly according to the flight rules. Flying VFR "wherever you want" should be OK as long as you dont go into controlled airspace or restricted areas without clearance, and fly following the procedures. If you just want to do "some fun flying under bridges" etc, then offline or Microsoft "Zone" might be a better choice. It depends on what your intentions are. Vatsim is nice if you want to play with the rules of real world aviation regulations, it's polite for others to "play along" - the co-operation of everybody creates the atmosphere of real flying even thouhg it is a simulator in your own desk or basement :)Our sim is in a club too, www.malminilmailukerho.net - a GA club in Helsinki-Malmi airport in Finland.//Tuomas

Thanks for the reply Tuomas, I'm sure we will do a good combination of Online and Offline flying. We want to teach them to fly and develop their interests in Aviation, however with them flying, I'm sure there will be a few mishaps, crashes etc....so training offline, and after ATC training and when they have their "wings" we can use propper ATC! Phil.

Besides the options above I was thinking about using the following solution. (did not try it yet). How to enter 0-9 for the ATC module from FS itself?I am building a 777. The raiomanagement panel contains a lot of pushbuttons (10 I think). I could program the 0-9 on them.In that way it should be possible to use the FS ATC module itself.Norberthttp:/home.wanadoo.nl/norbert.bosch

In my Cessna 'pit I have a handheld "microphone" on a cable, just like the pre-integrated headset planes used, except that instead of a mic it has a mini 12-digit keypad. When I hit the PTT on the yoke, the menu appears on the outside view, which is a bit unrealistic, but it's only up for a second or so till I hit the number button and then hit the PTT again to make it disappear.Richard
