Projectors Native and Max Resolution ?

Featured Replies

Hi,i have a simple question: Let's say that we have a projector with a native resolution 800X600 and a maximum resolution 1024X768 (or 1280X1024). The signal from our Fs-pc is 1024X768 (or 1280).How the projector displays the image, like 1024X768 or it coverts it down to 800X600?In first case (displays the 1024X768) where is the difference with other projectors with native 1024X768. We loose from image's quality? In second case (converts/compress the 1024 down to 800x600) where is the difference if we had the 800x600 resolution direct from our FS-Pc. It's the same right? So we maybe loose also quality from the convertion. So why they have max 1024X768?As you can understand, i try to find out, if the entry level projectors 800X600 with a low cost, can display the 1024 resolution or higher. I want the projector only for outside view and the 800X600 is not a good resolution even in my monitor, so i suppose that in a bigger screen (like a projector's image) it will be very bad. Right?ThanksEddie ArmaosAthens-Greece

Right?Depends on your needs. Remember your computer screen also has to display the gauges. On a home cockpit your gauges will be on the panel, so you dont "need" the high res to be able to read them. Then again, high res is good for clarity, but well, the image size will add a lot to the feeling of *immersion* ***if you enclose the sim so you dont see outside***. Immersion and high resolution = good. Then again, immersion + low resolution is still probably better than your high res computer monitor on your desk.. :) It's a compromise between what you get and how much you pay :-/Also, a *wide* visual system will give you motion cues to your peripheral vision -> better immersion. So, if you have budget for three low-end projectors and 3 computers for wideview, you very likely will get better immersion than with one high res projector. Sure, three high res projectors would be even better, but again, the compromise :)//Tuomas

I am planning a 737NG and getting my cockpit software nailed and in the grave before I go and try to hardware everything. As I go, though, I keep searching eBay for the certain items one needs to have to build certain hard-to-find aspects (a DIY projector in my case).I am going to attempt to build a 1024x768 or better resolution projection system and hook it up to my main FS computer. The video card I have is a Radeon 9800 Pro 128MB video card and it will display across two computer monitors, tried and tested, and it looks awesome. As soon as I have one projector built and operational, then I'll focus on the second. I will use a dual projection system, possibly with mirrors to add to the projection distance ending up with the image displayed around 1ft in front of the window frames with the screen's frame being a little lower than the window and much taller allowing the pilot to lean forward to look down and up and see more sky. One projector for the pilot perspective and the other for the F/O. Total cost for these will be around US$200-300 each, US$600 for both if I can find a budget screen on eBay or anywhere else that fits the overhead projector.Ideas like these are not easy to fabricate. The hardest part of the DIY projector is tearing the LCD screen apart without breaking any cabling or frying any parts, then making a platform for them to rest on 2-3" above the projector's glass. In then end, it will give me a performance solution for my projection concepts and save me money to use on the rest of the expensive parts of my sim.My 2 cents worth.

Sorry, what is DIY projector? This is the old time projectors we had before some years for presentations in office with printed material?Eddie ArmaosAthens-Greece

kinda...It's an overhead projector (like the one you mention) with instead of paper, an LCD on top of it.Very easy and cheap to make :)
