WideView and startup of the sim

Featured Replies

Hello again ;-)This is fairly wideview specific, so I guess their forum is good for that, but I figured many of us use multiple outside view screens as well, so let me know:Is it easy to setup WideView so, that it just starts up from the powerbutton without user intervention? The reason I ask is because our C172 sim will need a PC upgrade, and the Parhelia has got to go - it is being the bottleneck. So we'll probably end up with 3 PC's with fast PCI-Express cards each driving one screen, linked with wideview. The problem is, the setup needs to start by itself, since not all of the users are simpit-savvy, many dont know how to use FS2004. But they know how to fly a C172. Our Parhelia setup works okay in this regard, but how is Wideview? I ask because I havent used wideview before, and I wonder if it has stuff like this to autostart and -shutoff the computers etc?//Tuomas

can't you just drag wideview into the startup folder?

>can't you just drag wideview into the startup folder?Of course. But I am asking about the whole shebang here: startup, shutdown etc. I guess it goes smooth then without hassle?//Tuomas

Hi Tuomas,I will try and answer your questions,Yes it does have an auto start feature, does not work on all systems,i had trouble to start with but now its ok.Shutdown of all remotes is done by clicking on a graphical switch and ticking a box and when you hit ok,all remotes start shutting down ina couple of seconds. It can take some time to set up but once done it should be fine. The Wideview forum is excellent,The developer respnds very quickly and is very obliging. The best thing i can suggest if you can get yor hands on a spare pc,download the trial version, last for 20 minutes and FS9 reloadreactivates it, and see what you think. There is quite a bit to it,questions are best answered byexperimenting. All i can say is i experimented about two years ago with it and found it then fiddly. Now it has advanced considerably, still not perfect in many ways.Ai traffic is not synced unless you go online flying, weather ect.Give it a try.Hope this helps a little.Les

OK, thanks, this was helpful. So: no ai traffic. That sucks a bit. We fly on Vatsim quite a bit but not always. And AI planes do add a lot of the feel to our local airport (we have all the cessnas and pipers of Finland painted in their actual liveries sitting on their more or less correct parking spots..) - so having that would be good, but so it does not work?Weather wont work? Even with FSUIPC and WideFS? What about stuff like ActiveSky, would those solve the issue? What other non-perfections have you found?I'll check out the trial soon, once we find a spare PC there and will try it out - right now I am evaluating which things would suffer a regression compared to the Parhelia - since we do need to upgrade the computer soon, it is getting slow. Thanks for the help so far, others who have used wideview, I'd love to hear from your experiences especially regarding on what has rough edges, and how did you solve them.//Tuomas
