test version of FSCONV with Level-D MCP leds support

Featured Replies

Hi,For those of you building a Level-D MCP with FSCONV and IOcards:I have noticed that it's not easy to define the outputs for the leds in the MCP buttons. You need to do some logival OR ring, which seem to be impossible in plain IOcardsSo to make your implementation life easier, I have defined 8 extra bits in the AFDS_FLAGS representing LNAV, VNAV, FLCH, HDG HOLD, V/S, ALT HOLD, LOC and APP. Go grab test version 2.25, just connect your leds and enjoy!See my website, page new!Nicowww.nicokaan.nl1704.png

Nico, what IOCards are needed to build an MCP apart from a Master Card? Thanks

Hi Mark,Just 1 DisplayII card. This card can control up to 16 7-segment displays, exactly what you need for the MCP(IAS = 3, HDG=3, VSPEED=5 and ALT=5)For easy wiring of the 16 yellow 7-segment displays (also avaible at OpenCockpits), I recommend to buy 2 pcb's for 5 digits and 2 pcb's for 3 digits.I also recommend to buy four "grey type" rotary encoders from FlightDeckSolutions. Such an encoder can be connected directly to 2 consecutive inputs of the Mastercard. That's all (and 13 push buttons with leds and 4 on/off switches of course)It's not very expensive, and a real MCP gives you much more control over your sim. It's a big difference turning real knobs in stead of using the mouse.More info about how to use IOCards can be found at my website, page IOCards.Best Regards,Nicowww.nicokaan.nl1704.png

>and 13 push buttons with leds and 4 on/offSorry, I forgot BC, so 14 push buttons with ledsNow I see that I had to add 9 in stead of 8 extra flags in FSCONV... Although BC is seldomly used, I will add that later on.ReagrdsNicowww.nicokaan.nl1704.png

Thanks Nico, what about the Bank Angle Selector - can a rotary switch be used for this?

  • Author

Mark,To my knowledge there's no "SET bank limit selector" control in the basic SDK of Level-D. You can only read out the current angle. It's a minor issue, just set it to auto once with the mouse and leave it there...The Aerosoft MCP has no possibility for that either. But of course we should strive for 100% compatibility with the real thing, so maybe you could address this issue with Wade and Laurent!. Are you not a beta tester?Regards,Nicowww.nicokaan.nl1704.png

Nico,Yes Iam. I've passed on the suggestion to add in the bank angle selector switch. Do Rotary Switches connect quite easily to the IOCards Master Card?

Mark,Yes!, as well rotary switches (with a fixed number of positions) as grey type rotary encoders (for frequencies, altitudes and so on). However, the basic SDK does not provide controls for on/off and rotary switches yet... (just read-only state information)I have made a work around in FSCONV for that. I read the position of a physical switch, compare that with state information about the switch in the SDK and then I generate key-strokes to make the switch in the panel synchronise with the physical switch. This works, but is a rather cumbersome solution. So if you would do me a favor and ask the team for controls for switches (set a switch in a certain position) then I would be very happy.. ;-)Nicowww.nicokaan.nl1704.png
