October 8, 200619 yr A couple of photos of my latest project...A fellow builder was kind enough to send me dimensions from a real 727 throttle quadrant along with a series of detailed photos for my build. Along with several other photo sources, this is the result so far.Sorry about the imgage quality.
October 9, 200619 yr Thanks AC! THe guy who turned the Delrin knobs for me just picked them up for routing the lever recess into the sides. I get them back on Wednesday for permanent installation. The build should progress a little faster after the knobs are installed permanently. That dust shield in the photo is not the actual one I'm using. I ordered a 1/16" 12"x24" piece of very nice rubber with a 50 rating (A shore) that is perfect. I still have to cut it.The electronics are from Mouser. 10K sliding pots using ball joint ends and rods from McMaster's out of Chicago. The Korry indicators are on the way.
October 18, 200619 yr hi Michael, it looks great, after mi cdu i would like to build one myself, how are you gonna connect them?usb or gameport?and what is gonna be the interface?or can you just use fsuipc to callibrate the two throttles?ivo
October 19, 200619 yr I'll be using a USB analog input card with at least five axes. The problem is finding one that's affordable, and located in the States, and in stock. It doesn't seem like I can get all three of these things together.I don't need any buttons inputs or the like. I have a separate card that handles that.I've been working on the trim wheels, so they are not installed in this photo. As a matter of fact, I just laid a coat of chromate primer on them just before posting this. Here's where I'm at now:
October 19, 200619 yr well, there is one at open cocpits, the usb axes card , it has 5 axes and 24 buttons to assignit cost
October 20, 200619 yr There are no plans. This was built from measurements provided by another builder using an actual 727 quadrant. Some dimensions are approximate to within 3mm-5mm. I didn't have every last measurment of the throttle, only the more important figures such as overall length, hight, width. The length of the throttle and reverser levers, flap and speedbrake handles, etc., etc.I'm aware of the Open Cockpits card. That is the one I was trying to oder but I'm having trouble with Paypal and can't get money to the guy. It seems that all of the affordable cards are in Europe.
November 6, 200619 yr From about a week ago. I'm ordering the FDS analog input card on Friday. After the card is wired and working correctly, it will just be a matter of details and buttoning it up and mounting it to the control stand.http://img19.imageshack.us/img19/4628/t6qi8.jpg
November 24, 200619 yr Except for wiring, it is completed. I'm still waiting on the Beta Innovations MM2 card to arrive. Scheduled for delivery on the 28th.
November 24, 200619 yr Captain, .. this looks awesome !But the question always comes to mind when I see pictures like these is one you can not answer here in the forum. "How do they feel" :) I have done like .. 3 different throttle setups and when I was at the full motion CAE sim I noticed 4 different feelings to the throttles.Well I hope for you that they feel as great as they look! They deserve it :(
November 25, 200619 yr The feel is butter smooth. Starting and stopping. There is no jerking or roughness during movement and they don't need the slightest 'shove' to get them moving. You just push gently and they move. It's about a three pound push or pull. I think much of this is due to the rubber dust seals, and the rest is the tension on the center rod all of the levers are mounted on.There is no creep fore or aft and exact EPR should be much easier to set compared with what I've been using. I've installed 100mm slide pots with about 85mm of total travel stop to stop.Counting the days now.
November 25, 200619 yr this is realy fantastic, may i ask, did you made te white leverknobs yourself?this is the last thing i am struggling on, where to find these handles, if you have any sugestion howe to make them, i would love to knowivo
November 25, 200619 yr They were turned on a lathe by a friend of mine. They are made from 1-1/8" Delrin rod. They are not exactly the shape I would have prefered, but he did the best he could since he's not a machinist by trade.Delrin can be found at most industrial supply outlets. Here is one: http://www.mcmaster.com/ It's about $5 US per foot.On a side note, the Beta Innovations card arrived today. A few days earlier than expected. I still probably won't get to wiring it until Tuesday.
