Thorsten- for the most part, opening, undocking and dragging popups or sub panels doesn't have much if any effect. Depends on the specific popup and airplane type. In the PMDG 747,737 the Overhead and COM sub panels DO cause a significant but not catastrophic hit so I only open them as needed. In any event they are so large as to need much of a whole screen- thus depriving me of that view! I do arrange the OH panel so that Pedestal fuel control switches are visible below the OH panel for engine start. Others such as the 2nd CDU have no effect that I can see, so I generally have both open- very handy sometimes with different pages available. I don't undock PFD nor ND- just use the 2D main panel- normal or Zoom. The biggest F'rate killers are: allowing one view to touch/overlap an adjacent monitor and not resetting focus back to main mon after clicking/touching the cursor on a secondary mon. Always return the cursor to main mon after it has TOUCHED a secondary mon. With the DreamFleet Baron, I can detect No FPS hit from popups. ATR 72 is similar to PMDG in that COM & OH cause a hit. In some situations I overlay popups with a corner of each always showing to click on & bring it to the top- ie Throttle Quad. and 2nd CDU are 90% overlapped. The pic shows the layering a bit better.Alex Reid CYYJQOS 747 "Ready for taxi" Dawn CYYJ http://forums.avsim.net/user_files/180953.jpg
