June 10, 200817 yr Evenin'Could someone just confirm that I'm not missing something? I have a 4 pc network with multi-monitors on each pc. I would like to use the network better to run gauges/windows on some of the displays. NOT outside views, just such as engine instruments, right CDU, lower EICAS etc. I know of and use WideView for exterieurs and MaxiVista for some panels. The latter is great but unfortunately limited to a total of 3 virtual displays. What I'd like is MaxiVista with 5 displays! Could someone just confirm that I'm not missing some handy utility to achieve this? WideFS would not be able to do what I want, right?? FS9 is the version I use. Thanks in advance for the benefit of your experience,Andy Wilby
June 11, 200817 yr There is several software available that is able to generate gauges on a client PC, The client does not need a copy of fs9/x, so you can use an older one. Communication goes via widefs.a few examples:http://www.cockpitware.com/http://www.flightdecksoftware.com/content/...te-key-featureshttp://www.opengc.org/index.htmlthere are a lot more, also for GA planes (see the links page on my website)regardsNorbert Boschhttp://home.wanadoo.nl/norbert.bosch/
June 11, 200817 yr NorbertThanks for your response, which I have studied with interest. However, my initial conclusions - after only brief study it must be said - are that the softwares seem to lack key elements that I would want. (VNAV for example in one, MCP in the other....) I need to study this more. But to refine my original question: are there softwares around that rather than being external programmes, permit the running of the original (for example) PMDG 747 gauges themselves on seperate networked PCs? That is what I use MaxiVista for and would like more of the same to be able to spread the existing panels over more screens. Of course I could use the software you suggested for the primary flight instruments on a networked PC thus liberating my MV capacity for other PMDG panels....ThanksAndy

Hi Andy,With MaxVista you are not running the gauge software at a separate PC, you only transfer the undocked gauge window (graphically speaking) to another PC, but the workload of generating the gauge info is still for your FS pc ... This is not what we call a networked gauge solution. The ones indicated by Norbert are networked solutions.Instead of MaxVista you could also connect more monitors to your FS9 pc, undock the gauge and move it to another Monitor; that is basically the same solution (from a performance point of view) as MaxVista.Unfortunately, to my knowledge, no payware add-ons exist that provide you networked gauges.regards,Nicohttp://www.lekseecon.nl
June 11, 200817 yr Thanks to Nico for his response. That confirms what I had thought. I have started thinking more seriously about networked gauge solutions and have had a good look around on the net. Project Magenta: though not free, is it true that they are the market leaders and to what extent does one have ALL the features of say, the FMC available? (I am really not comfortable with solutions that seem to miss out important elements). Can one use this software with add-ons like PMDG? Is a "mix and match" option feasible - i.e. some PMDG features/programming with PM (or other) FMC for example as desired?Interesting stuff.Andy
June 11, 200817 yr If you are going for a real cockpit setup several pc's in a network, I would not go for PMDG. PMDG is very good addon for a one pc setup. If you build an airbus go for http://www.airsimtech.com/For boeing http://www.sim-avionics.comBoth are almost 100% simulation of the real thing, offcourse they have vnav and lnav.I use project magenta for several years, but updates are very sparse lately and PM lacks a lot of things compared with the 2 above mentioned. As I am building a 777, I am sill considering changing to the sw from sim-avionics that really looks very good.
June 12, 200817 yr Have you ever tried WideView? I used to use it before I got my dual head to go:<< http://wideview.it/wideview.htm >> Smooth Skies! -- Chuck B. June 12, 200817 yr Chuck,Yep, know and use WideView. Actually, not entirely happy with it because of the disparity between some of my computers. Not WVs' fault that....! Anyhow, what I want is more internal view space - instruments etc - my externals suit me fine for now.CheersAndy
June 13, 200817 yr Hi, Andy. Good to talk to you again. You mean WideView doesn't sync panels/gauges on the client from the serving computer? I was about to set that up myself this weekend, but if it won't work using WideView I'm don't want to waste my time trying. Smooth Skies! -- Chuck B. June 13, 200817 yr ChuckNo, WideView only deals with external views. If you want to extend panels/screens from the plane you are flying on to networked computers, the only solution that I know of is MaxiVista which I have found excellent. Only trouble is that at present it only supports 3 extra screens. The reason for my original post was to try and find "more of the same" via another application if one existed. It appears that there isn't one, so apart from some of the software suggested by previous respondants, one can not go further.....Have a good w/eAndy
June 13, 200817 yr Thanks, Andy. That explains why no one suggested it before. I suspected there was something I didn't know but I wanted to put it out there any way, just in case. I haven't used WideView in over a year, and even back then only for a month or two.I'm going to create another post in a minute. I have a question about the rotate command and my external views in panel.cfg. I'd appreciate your input if you have any.Best regards, and Smooth Skies! -- Chuck B.
