REPAINTERS: 512 X 512 textures??

Featured Replies

Hey everyone, I'm just curious...an acquaintance of mine is looking for aircraft to repaint, but he's primarily interested in aircraft with 512 by 512 textures. I have no idea what that means, but if anyone does know, and has any idea what planes have those textures, please let me know so that I can relay the information to him :) He's pretty new to the repaint scene, and has done some pretty awesome work so far (Terry Gaff's 737-200 in particular). Any suggestions?George

Anyone at all wanna share anything on this?George

What that means is that the textures are 512 pixels wide by 512 pixels tall. Load any aircraft texture into ImageTool (in the Pro edition or in one of the SDK's), and it will tell you the size. Of course, you can use any size texture you like with any aircraft (as long as it uses BMP's); you can replace a 256 x 256 texture with a 512 x 512 texture, for example, and all will still work just fine.Hope this helps,-- Tom GibsonCalifornia Classic Propliners: http://www.calclassic.com/Cal Classic Alco Page: http://www.calclassic.com/alco/Freeflight Design Shop: http://www.freeflightdesign.com/ San Diego Model RR Museum: http://www.sdmodelrailroadm.com/Drop by! ___x_x_(")_x_x___

golfbravo,512 x 512 textures are a bit old hat now. Even CFS2 used 1024 x 1024 textures, as does FS2002. Certainly they are mipped of course, but 1024 x 1024 is now the standard if you want the best level of detail.
