  1. Hello all, I was wondering if any painters out there would be willing to tackle the "upwards and onwards" Delta Air Lines scheme for SGA's current MD-90 model. I know that one exists, but it's missing that characteristic gap in the windows (on the port side), unique to MD-80s and -90s built for DL. If anyone is willing and able to do it, I'd very much appreciate it. Thanks! 2. Great videos as usual, Ed! I have one question: Where did you find the DME scenery? George
  3. To everyone, thanks for all your help! At ronzie: I tried to work with ADE9, but it's proving to be quite the challenge (perhaps I'm just too accustomed to AFCAD2). I didn't even realize that there was 2.21 (either that or I assumed that I already had it). In any event, I downloaded and installed version 2.21 and lo and behold, I was able to open the aforementioned airport files! I do realize that any file with an AFX suffix would require the updated programs, but for now, I'm content with AFCAD v2.21. Thanks again, guys and gals!George
  4. Hi all,I tried searching this in various forums here, but found no topics that really hit the nail on the head. I've been having a little trouble with a few AFCAD files from three sceneries in my library. First is the Overland RKSI Incheon scenery. Second is Aerosoft's megascenery Amsterdam (EHAM). Third is the Suvarnabhumi scenery (VTBS) by Armi. In these cases, when I try to open the AFCAD file, AFCAD gives me a message saying that it is unable to perform the task and shuts down. Therefore, I am unable to open the files in order to view or edit gate information. Has this happened to anyone else, and if so, what can I do about it? Thanks for reading,GeorgeP.S. I am using AFCAD version 2.04 and fly FS9. I realize it's a relatively old version, but as far as I know, it's the most current freeware offering, and it works for about 99% of my sceneries. Cheers!
  5. Sorry for the late reply here, but I concur that the scenery is excellent. As for the AFCAD, it appears that a simple one was provided (with a lot of repetitive gate assignments - such as gate A62 appearing multiple times!). Also, if you're editing the AFCAD file, the hold short point for runway 30L should be moved closer to the runway. As is, the AI traffic stops too short to call for takeoff clearance. Therefore, they just sit there idling til they disappear. Other than that, well worth the money spent! Cheers!George
  6. Thanks Randy, I suppose I should've posted over on their forum, but I didn't have the patience at the time to set up another account lol. Plus, I've since figured out that this problem isn't related to the scenery; it was the AI traffic - in particular, the Horizon Air repaints I used for the flightplans. I still have to figure out which one it was (might've been one of the sports-themed schemes). Cheers!George
  7. Thank you for your help, Rafal. I took your advice, and sure enough it was an AI problem. Since the last update I did to my AI in that area was Horizon Air (I recently installed AIG's Summer 2010 flightplans), I figured that must've been the culprit. Indeed, after deleting the traffic file, everything has returned to normal. Only problem is that I'm not sure which AI plane(s) was to blame for the corruption. At first I thought it was the Alaska Airlines repaints I substituted (I used the Alaska Q400 instead of the 25th anniv. and substituted the Skywest Alaska CR7 for the Horizon paint). However, the problem persisted when I used the prescribed paint schemes...very strange. Perhaps I'll go back to WOAI's Summer 2009 package and see if that helps. Anyhoo, thanks again! And if anyone knows of any corrupt Horizon Air paint schemes for either the AIG CR7 or the TFS Q400, please let me know!Cheers,George
  8. Hiya everyone,I've been using FlyTampa's Seattle scenery for some time now, and have been enjoying it; however, all of my flights have been during the day or early in the morning. Just now, I tried operating a flight that departs SEA at night, and immediately after loading, the sim crashed with the message "flight simulator has encountered a problem and needs to close". I thought it might have been a conflict with the aircraft (QWSim 757), so I switched equipment but the same thing happened. It did not happen during the day. Has anyone else encountered this problem? If so, what suggestions do you have? Thanks for reading,George
  9. OK, never mind everyone! The problem has been solved; turns out that all of my control settings had been erased. Very strange since I never mess with them, but I simply reset the defaults and changed some things around to my liking. Thanks again!George
  10. Hi all,My keyboard was working just fine on FS9 until later yesterday. For some reason, I can cycle views using 'S', but pressing 'Shift + S' to cycle backwards doesn't work. In fact, all controls on the keyboard seem to have been disengaged (can't change views, can't pushback, etc) except for the "Alt" and 'S'. Alt will open the tabs on the top of the screen, but that's it. "Ctrl + C" to exit the sim doesn't work. I haven't done anything to my sim in the last 24 hours, so I'm wondering if something else is at play here.. Keep in mind that I'm using this keyboard to type, so I can't imagine that something is wrong with the keyboard itself. Any help is appreciated!George
  11. Hey there Mel,Thank you so much for the suggestion. At the moment, I'm using the AFCAD file that came with Imaginesim's scenery (I would've posted this issue on their website, but I don't think it has a discussion forum). I'm open to new suggestions, so yes I'd love to try Jim Vile's AFCAD. The only tweaking I've done with Imaginesim's is with the gates (re-assigning them to their respective airlines). Also, it should be noted that before I purchased the Imaginesim scenery, I was using an AFCAD for the default scenery - and encountered the same issue (particularly when approaching from the south). Thanks for your help, Mel!George
  12. Hello everyone,As the title (and description) suggests, this happens mainly with approaches to KATL. I have Imaginesim's scenery installed, but even before that, this seemed to be an ongoing issue. No matter where I fly from, from which direction I'm approaching, or to which runway I've been vectored, ATC always gives me the initial vectors (for any given runway), then completely ignores me before completely canceling my flight plan. Is this a known issue with KATL in FS9 in general? Once or twice I've managed to be vectored almost all the way there - except if that happens (and it's rare), I'm usually cleared to the tower about 60 miles outbound instead of the usual 20-25 miles. That has only happened on approach to runway 8L. Any suggestions?George
  13. Hey there David, sorry about that. I found the file on Avsim, and the file name is ksea_afcad_279697.zip by Alex McKnight. It was added very recently (end of August). As for mesh, everything else in that area is default. The only enhancements I've made to my landclass is the Caribbean. I've never added anything beyond the default to the continental US.
  14. Hi all,I tried a search regarding this issue, but nothing too helpful came out of it. I recently installed a new AFCAD for the default FS9 KSEA scenery, which includes the new runway 34L/16R. I tried taking off from runway 34R/16L and saw that the runway seemed to 'float' slightly above ground level. So, when I would taxi onto the runway, the runway appeared to slide across the ground. Is there a fix for this? With the previous AFCAD file, the runway stayed put. I suppose I can try to contact the author of the file, but if there's a quick fix (perhaps something to flatten?), I'd rather go that route. Thanks for your help!George
  15. Hey everyone...well, I'm not "guilty" as yet, but it's not because I don't want it. I'm one of those "eye-candy" simmers that likes a certain degree of realism, but not something that would give me a headache to learn to fly. Having taken a look at the iFly package, I'm very much impressed with the quality of the visual model (both exterior and interior). However, to date the most complicated aircraft I have in my sim is the Majestic DHC-8 and usually I'm flying around in the QualityWings 757. When compared to the QW 75', how complicated is the iFly 737? BTW, I've never owned the PMDG 737 series. I wouldn't mind spending the $55 on it, but I don't want to buy it only to go bananas trying to fly it! While I know about Flight1's return policy, I'd rather not buy at all than have to return it if I'm dissatisfied. Any advice is appreciated! Cheers,George
  16. Trust me, I also thought it would be overwhelming trying to build traffic without WOAI. But keep in mind, that you can do essentially what WOAI does, albeit broken down a bit. The MRAI installer is very easy to use. First, you download and install the aircraft/repaints that you wish to use for your traffic. Then, download a MRAI-compatible flightplan (Alpha-India's flightplans are all MRAI-compatible). Follow the unzipping instructions for said FP, run the installer, and follow the prompts. It really is that simple. :( While WOAI is a faster route to go, using MRAI is just as easy, just a little more time-consuming. TTools is required for it to work, but if you have the WOAI installer, then you already have TTools. Now, I know there was somewhere you could find the installer, but I can't remember the website. If anyone else wants to take a stab at it, be my guest! Cheers!
  17. On WOAI's forum, they mentioned that there are certain modellers and repainters (as well as flightplan developers) that did withdrew their consent to use their work in WOAI's packages. All of the above airlines mentioned (except CO Express, which was never made a package) were packages that had to be withdrawn for the reason stated above. The good news, however, is that if you use the MRAI installer, it's quite easy to install these flightplans (which, btw, are much more up-to-date than the original WOAI) yourself. Alpha-India has released a summer schedule for at least a couple of those airlines, and repaints for most of them are readily available both at Avsim and Flightsim. Hope this helps a bit!
  18. From the looks of it, it's a re-issued (and perhaps improved) PSS model. If they were making improvements though, I'd suggest taking another look at the visual model. There were so many inaccuracies with the PSS Dash that stood out, and it doesn't appear as though they've changed anything on it at Just Flight. Even though opinions may differ, I would personally recommend spending the extra $$ and getting the Majestic Software Dash 8-300. It's got all the bells and whistles, plus a fantastic visual model and ear-blowing sounds.
  19. Hello there Tull,I took at a look at this cloud package, and they do look amazing, but I have to ask (before I download): will their performance be better than that of the default clouds? As it is, I take a pretty big performance hit any time I'm around a heavier cloud, and I've even reduced the 3D quality of the defaults to around 50% just to reduce the hit. Any info is appreciated!George
  20. Hey there. You might have seen my post. In my case, the frames were dropping and rising constantly i.e. my sim was locked at 20fps, and it would hold it - for about a minute, then drop to 3-4fps for about 3 minutes, then go back up to 20fps for another 3 mins, and that would continue until I got frustrated and turned off the sim (usually with some unsavory language LOL). As it turned out in my case (I had an NVIDEA GeForce 9400GT), the video card may have been defective, but apparently the fan was never working, and it caused the fan to melt off of its support structure on the card itself.I figured it had to be the video card because eventually, the problem got to the point where my monitor stopped working (it would go into power save mode and never come out of it). If any of this sounds like it may pertain to you, I'd strongly suggest taking a hard look at your video card.Good luck!George
  21. Alrighty, running the risk of seeming like a thread hijacker, Gus' recommendations worked beautifully, and I've got a running simulator with smooth graphics!!! I couldn't be happier! Now for the daunting task of re-installing the payware scenery (and payware/freeware traffic) I've accumulated over the years (insert huge groan here, since I've lost my registration codes for a lot of them!). Cheers, everyone!George
  22. I turned on antialiasing in the game itself (I did that with the last card, and it worked) Oh my. I guess that was my first error. Gus, thank you very much, and I will try that approach, although I must admit that I don't understand much of what you're talking about, other than the mipmap thingie. lol please understand that I have very basic knowledge of computers! I have a rather large monitor, however, and my resolution is set to 1680 x 1050 x 32 - otherwise, everything looks 'stretched' on the screen.
  23. I have an update (a good one, fortunately):As of today, FS9 is up and running again. To Opa, thank you so much for your tips; I followed them and deleted everything, started with a fresh installation and FS9 runs again! It's great to be reacquainted with an 'old' friend. As it turned out, my former video card might have been defective, for it managed to melt the supports for the fan (which wasn't working), and therefore was rendered useless. I replaced the card with a Radeon 4350HD, and installed a new power supply (the old one gave out as well - talk about raining and pouring!). To everyone else, thanks again for all the support; it was definitely appreciated! On that note, however, I still have one small gripe, and it might be an easy fix (at least I hope so!): running FS, everything runs smoothly, except for the graphics themselves. I'm plagued with 'jaggies'. I turned on anti-aliasing, but the result is still the same. With my former card, the resolution was smooth. Is there something I've missed? Or is the Radeon that I purchased inferior to the GeForce 9400GT that I replaced? Both are 512MB DDR2 cards, but the GeForce required a 350W power supply (my computer had 300W), and the Radeon requires 300W.I know it seems like I can't catch a break, but I'm hoping that this is something minor that I can fix myself (and easily). Thanks for all your help, everyone!George
  24. Nah, never used the no cd patch (until a few days ago, I never even knew there was such a patch). The only patch I had used was the 9.1 upgrade.
  25. To David,Thanks very much; I will give it a try (at this point, I'm open for anything and getting somewhat desperate). To flyinpilot,Thanks again. It's so strange that I've been using FS9 for years (since it was first released), and on this computer, I've had it installed for 2 years or so, without a problem. I've never had a reason to uninstall/reinstall before, but I figured that might help the performance issue. Instead, what I'm left with is a non-responsive sim. FS9 has always been so reliable, and it's just frustrating that the only interactive support offered by MS is for FSX (understandable, since that is their current product). I wouldn't mind switching to FSX, except I don't think my computer is powerful enough to run it smoothly. The only other thing I can possibly entertain is that the disk is bad, and I'll have to buy a new copy of FS9. I'll try a full uninstall/reinstall (ie backup allllll...llll of my addons over the years) and see if that works. Thanks again for your help guys.George
