September 14, 200223 yr Hi,I am sure that this is an old question, but I still don't know how to correct the problem. In the early morning and at dusk, there are no runway light at all. Even at night the lights seem to be quite dim. Is there anyway to increase the intensity of the runway lights?
September 16, 200223 yr The issue with runway lighting not coming on at dawn and dusk (until certain times) has been around for as long as FS has. I agree that it would be more realistic to have the lights come on at times other than night-time, when lighting gets to a low level (eg. weather). At night time, however, in real flying the runway lights are hard to pick out, just as you see them in FS (at least from my flying experiences). The white/green rotating beacon is many times more visible for finding the airport in real night flight.Bruce. ASEL, Instrument. KBJC, Colorado.
September 16, 200223 yr You might try Chris Willis' site:http://fsw.simflight.com/FSWMenu2002.htmlI haven't tried them, but they look promising.Save your original light files and if you don't like his, reinstall the orginals.Richard
September 16, 200223 yr Runway and taxi lights come on well before dark, and turn off well after the darkness is gone in the morning in my fs2002..... Declared weather: FSX: ASN / FS9: ASE
September 28, 200223 yr This is a old thread but this is problem I have been facing for the last week.I usually do a lot of night flying, and one of the things I have noticed is that the Runway lights (and taxi way lights, and even external lights) are very dull and hard to see when looking through the main cockpit window. However, if you look to the left, or right, or use the Virtual Cockpit (even if there isn't one) or any extrnal view the runway lights and other external lights are bright and clear.I have flown up front in some of the big planes here in New Zealand, and have managed to sit in the back while final approach, and I know that lights are really bright and clear, but they aren't as dull as the picture I have included here.I have replaced the runway lights with some other ones around but the same thing happens. As you can see between the two pictures, the difference in light intensity is very different...The first one is inside the cockpit - the second is the Virtual Cockpit view. As you can see I haven't got any internal lights on (it is the same with or without the internal lights on). I have altered everything in my setup to see if that could be the problem, but still nothing...Any help would be really great ---thanksWiNC
September 28, 200223 yr The reason for this is because in 2D cockpit view, the viewport window only occupies a fraction of your screen (the upper 1/2 for most panels). In VC mode, the viewport occupies the entire dimensions of the screen.Because your view is compressed in 2D cockpit view, you lose resolution and it's often difficult to pick out lights, beacons, and nav lights on distant aircraft. One way to work around this is to do a SHIFT+1 to turn OFF the main 2D panel...stretch your viewport until it occupies the entire screen. Then SHIFT+1 to turn the panel back on. You view should now look just as it does from VC mode. You'll likely need to adjust your eyepoint and possibly your zoom a bit to get the right vantage point - stretching the viewport will alter that a bit.J
