Warning: CFS3 and FS2002 multiplayer

Recommended Posts

If you play FS2002 in multiplayer, DO NOT install CFS3.The CFS3 installer installs a new version of DirectX that breaks multiplayer in FS2002. There is no way to uninstall the new DX version once it's there, to fix multiplayer in FS2002. I'm aware of certain "hacks" that may work to remove DX, but I wouldn't recommend that since it could mess up the entire system. The only thing to do if you have already installed CFS3 is to re-format and reinstall, or wait for MS to release a patch. That is with Windows XP. Don't know if the same happens on Win9x/2k/ME.I wish I had known that before I installed CFS3 :(

I too had this problem, I uninstalled CFS3, and overinstalled FS2k and the multiplayer works fine now. You would think that MS wpuld have taken care of this :(

Jimmi,Sorry my friend, but this is just flat out not true. I have FS2k2 and CFS3 installed, and have no problems with my FS2k2 muiltiplayer. In fact, I fly 100% of my flights on VATSIM, and have not had a single problem since installing CFS3. After doing some research, as many people have reported experiencing this, I believe it comes down to whether or not you have SP1 for Windows XP installed. I do have SP1 installed, and have had no problems while people who don't have SP1 installed seeem to have their FS2k2 MP "turned off."Ryan-Flightpro08 :-cool VATSIM Pilot/ControllerZLA ARTCC Senior Controller (C-3)SAN TRACON Lead [link:www.taxiwaysigns.com|Taxiwaysigns.com] Scenery Designer-----------------------------My "Home Made" System Specs:Intel Pentium 4 2.2GHz ProcessorTurbo Gamer ATX Mid-Tower with 420W Power SupplyEPoX 4G4A Motherboard with Intel 845G ChipsetVisiontek XTASY GeForce4 128MB Ti4600 (Det 30.30 Drivers)512MB PC2100 DDR RAM40GB Matrox 7200RPM Hard DriveWindows XP Home Edition SP1*No CPU or GPU Overclocking*3dMark2001SE Score: 11298-----------------------------Click [link:ftp.avsim.com/library/esearch.php?DLID=&Name=&FileName=&Author=Ryan+Fretwell&CatID=Root]Here to Download my New American Eagle POSKY CRJ-200!

I wish that were true, since I quite liked CFS3, but even with SP1, my FS2002 multiplayer broke with CFS3 and DirectPlay 8.2. It apparently doesn't effect everybody, but it does certainly effect some. See my response from Microsoft over on the CFS3 board:http://ftp.avsim.com/cgi-bin/dcforum/dcboa...rum=DCForumID26
