Grumman Goose manual start difficulty

Featured Replies

Thank you to Mike Stone for this model and Heather for the textures (and anyone else involved). I'm enjoying this plane! I'm using the panel recommended but I can't get the engines started manually--fuel pumps on, mixture in a third, engine start switch. It cranks but won't turn over. Will start right up with Ctrl-E. Any suggestions?

I don't have the panel in front of me at work, but have you checked the mixture control. It may default in the lean position. if so, you should enrich the mixture. Similarly, check props to be sure that they are at max possible power. Just guessing, but it's worth a try.sherm

Howdy,Try a full mixture start (as opposed to one third). Once the engines turn over, and are running, shut everything down, and save the flight (as default?, it's up to you). Exit FS, load FS again, and select the (default) saved flight. Try one third mixture, and hopefully, it should turn over properly.

Thanks for the responses. Yes, I noticed that if I start them up with Ctrl-E then shut them down, I can then start them using the manual procedure with no problems. So it would make sense that saving it in this configuration would enable me to start it up manually in subsequent flights. Any idea why this is all necessary. I haven't had problems with other planes. Thanks again.
