October 31, 200223 yr Not sure where to post this, although it relates to MSFS it is more a 'systems' question and is not h/w related so sorry if I should have posted in 'General' forum.A few days ago I ran the PSS loadedit utility and got an ActiveX error, I was annoyed and thought that utility was acting up again. However a couple of days later I ran the SID/STAR copying utility for the 767PIC aircraft and got the same msg so I figure the problem is system wide. The error is 'Error 429. ActiveX cannot create the object'Can anyone suggest which file may have gone missing or become corrupted? The only change I can think of making since everything worked OK was the deinstalation of the Multiplayer host & client s/w that recently became available in the avsim library.TIA
November 7, 200223 yr Author >You should check out this link. >http://www.hammerdata.com/Newsgrp/56.html Thanks for the link but that didn't solve the problem :-(Considering neither of the programs affected suggest you need Office installed I suspect it is something more fundemental in Windoze itself that got screwed up.

November 7, 200223 yr Author >Did the deinstallation of the program remove an *.ocx files >from your windowssystem32 folder? I didn't take notice Bill, like most of us when it says 'this file is not shared by anything else, do you want to delete it' I click 'yes to all'.However I have reinstalled the programs I thought might have caused the problem, in the hope they reinstalled or updated any affected files but the '429' error remains.I have a second networked PC with a base Win98SE & Office installation, I'll check the MS KB and see if transfering possibly affect files across helps.
November 7, 200223 yr You might try reinstalling Internet Explorer also. If you read what ActiveX"A set of technologies that allows software components to interact with one another in a networked environment, regardless of the language in which the components were created." Bill Sieffert

If you >read what ActiveX >>"A set of technologies that allows software components to >interact with one another in a networked environment, >regardless of the language in which the components were >created." I have tried the 'repair' option from within 'add/remove programs' without success.I have just had a reply from Mats Johansson, author of SS Copy, one of the programs affected, with a list of file suspects. I'll try his suggestions before a complete reinstall and if I get a fix I'll post back for the benefit of anyone else who gets the problem. But I would sure like to know what messed things up in the first place. Thanks for your time and effort.
