January 7, 200323 yr Hi GuysLast week I bought an Amd 2.4xp cpu to replace my 1.4 and installed it in my existing Asus a7a266 mobo with 512meg-ddr gf3 running windows xp. After installing the latest Bios and other drivers, I am far from happy with the increase in performance. My fps has increased about 5% over my old 1.4 although the fps seems more stable and my 3d-mark score has dropped from 5400 to 4800.The questions I have are1. do you think my mobo is the problem (too old to use the 2.4 to its potential)2. If I do replace my mobo what should I replace it with? I was thinking an Asus a7n266 (nforce2 based) I dont want to invest too much because I'm thinking of going back to an intel for my next major upgrade.Thx in advanceFloyd
January 9, 200323 yr Does your BIOS recognize the 2.4XP? And are you using 133 bus speed?Sometimes the motherboard defaults to 100...Have a look at the ASUS site for more support info...http://www.asus.com.tw/support/cpusupport/cpusupport.aspxAlso... I just notice that you asked the same question below and got the right answer.. Bert
January 13, 200323 yr Hi Floyd,I have the same MOBO and had the same scenario! I flashed the BIOS replaced my AMD 1.2 with an XP 2100 and I too got an increase of about 5%, my benchmark increased marginally but thats it. I have ordered an Nforce2 based MOBO and its being installed on Thursday a friend of mine has the same spec as me but has just had the Nforce2 based board fitted - his benchmark is 11,500 IMAGINE THAT! FS2002 is as smooth as can be on his system with all the sliders well cranked over to the right! Now thats for me!One should consider the MOBO like the transmission of a car, its no good having an awesome engine pumping out 400HP of the tranny can't handle it!System Info Version: 2.2Operating System: Microsoft Windows XPProcessor: AMD AMD Athlon XP2100+ @ 1.77 GHzGraphics Card: NVIDIA GeForce4 Ti 4600Total Physical Memory: 512 MBFree Physical Memory: 273.25 MBMotherboard Manufacturer: ASUSTeK Computer INC.Motherboard Model: A7A266
