March 29, 200323 yr hi all.about a week ago,i've changed my old gforce2mx to a brand new radeon 9700Pro from Crucial. My idea was to get a better FS2002 image quality. So i started to increase all the display's assignements almost to the max.i play in a 1024*768 resolution with frames locked at 30fps.my pc is able to keep this framerate very well, but there is a problem,it stutters.the fps drop from 30 to 06 every 10s,very sad!!!but after many adjusts, i've just discover the problem!!!it only stutters when my dsl connection is alive.i've just make a trial: take a dash 8,in meigs,a lot of clouds, rain, and some wind too.ready for a small trip to O'hare.i'm pleased to see chicago like i've never seen it before(poor gforcemx),and even when i'm on final to o'hare the 30fps still there.ok it drops to 16-20 fps when i'm taxing to parking and there is some traffic on ground, but it's good.so there i tried to open my dsl connection, and so the problem arrives.the fps drop to 06 every 10s.so i conclude that my dsl connection is a problem.but i need it cause i use to play with real weather.i had no problem with my old gforcemx.what can i do?
March 30, 200323 yr well i don't have a pci card, but an usb dsl modem.i've already remoded my old pci 56k modem, who actually shared an irq with the graphic card.
March 30, 200323 yr hello, some news.I've noticed that when i increase the direct sound accelaration in the dxdiag panel,FS2002 stutters too.i have to let direct sound in position 2(minimal accelaration)!
March 31, 200323 yr You mentioned activating your dsl. Do you use software such as Enternet 300? If so that maybe the issue.Allen
April 1, 200323 yr well i don't use any kind of program to connect to dsl.i've just configure a simple connection with my identities.it's very weird, don't you think?i'm sure now thats it makes FS2002 to stutter!i've been triyng it many times to confirm.when i load fs2002 without dsl connection,it works pretty good.if i try to load it with a dsl connection or even if i had dsl connection before loading the game,it stutters.
April 1, 200323 yr Yes That is strange. I use a router with my DSL and have never had an issue with FS2002. What else is using the USB ports? Or perhaps new drivers for the DSL modem?Allen
April 5, 200323 yr i also got a mouse and the joystick plug in the usb ports.but i got an usb hub to give enough power to these things.
April 8, 200323 yr Are all the items plugged into the USB hub?USB has a high and low speed so if the dsl modem is also in usb hub that may be the issue.
April 8, 200323 yr It could be because your USB modem is using some of your CPU usage. When I had a USB ADSL modem which is similar to DSL I was noticing that games were alot slower. I think that usb modems do alot of processes in software so that your CPU is having to calculate things that PCI DSL modems would have on a chip which means that the CPU doesnt have to so many things. When I did a test using 3dmark 2002 on my PC with the ADSL USB modem connected up I got just over 7500 3d marks and when it was disconnected from my PC my score went up to 10350 which it is is at the moment. In FS2002 I was losing about a 3rd in frame rates.I then purchased a PCI card based ADSL modem and I only lost maybe 200 hundred 3d mark points so it made a difference.Craig Kiltie
April 8, 200323 yr I've been having troubles with my Radeon, it's been causing me no end of greif on the stutter front. I have a USB D-Link DSL-200 modem, I just unplugged mine, turned on 4x AA and 16x AF, loaded up FS, no sutters at all. Plugged in the DSL modem, they started right away.Looks like your modem is the cause Cheers,John TavendaleTextures by Tavers - https://www.facebook.com/texturesbytavers
April 13, 200323 yr Sounds like you have the video card sharing IRQ with the modem/nic usd for the DSL. Ok to share with some things..but not that. Check your devise manager. Try moving the DSL card to another PCI slot so windows makes it share with something else so there is no conflicts. See pic.
April 27, 200323 yr just a little update.i finally found what makes FS stutter.it was my sound blaster live player card.after a lot of tries,i decided to remove my SB card, just to see what happens.and it was great,no more stutters with internet connection active or not.to confirm that,i replaced the SB card on the PC again, and the stutters came back again.now i can finally play FS with no problems and with graet graphics from the radeon 9700 pro.for the sound, i made active the chipsound on the motherboard!
