May 18, 200323 yr HiI've recently upgraded my mobo and cpu from an xp1600+ to an xp2400+ running on a gigabyte ga-7vax. However, i must say the results have been very dissapointing as i'd be hard pushed to say for sure that i've seen any improvement in those magical fps's !!!My normal "home" airport is gary summon's uk2000 stansted using the pss a320. When parked at the gate with the cockpit view, i'm getting 12fps - no more than i got with my old xp1600+ system.I attempted various tweaks (windows xp, graphics card, o/clocking) but all i see is "maybe" a 1 fps difference. The only way i can see a marked improvement in fps is to drop the ai traffic (all of which is project ai) to very low levels. However, this seems strange to me as i would have thought that the extra "horsepower" of the xp2400+ could handle this. Obviously i'm wrong...My only thought is that my cpu speed is currently "only" 2.1mhz as i'm running with pc133, ddr ram instead of the pc166 that the mobo is capable of taking.Has anyone else had an experience like this or could anyone make any suggestions as to what could be going on. Thanks in advanceDonWindows XP ProAMD XP2400+GeForce 3 Ti200512 Mb RAM
May 18, 200323 yr The shortcommings of your setup certainly aren't your mobo/cpu combo, it is my opinion that your problem lies in your graphics card/RAM.The Gf3 TI200 although a good card a while back, nowdays, especially with FS2002 with all the AI add-ons, scenery add-ons, aircraft add-ons, etc..it just plain doesn't put out enough power. The memory bandwidth on your card is quite low by todays standards. That card would work fine for F2002 with a default setup but when you start adding in all the "extras" you really start to see performance degradation, even when you upgrade your cpu/mobo.GF4 TI4600 cards are pretty cheap right now and you can get some great DDR memory at very good prices. Obviously, if you can afford it then I would say get a Radeon 9700 Pro but since you also need a memory upgrade as well, the cost of building up your system can really get expensive. I would suggest, if money is an issue and you just can't wait, then get a GF4 TI4600 and about 768mb-1gb of DDR PC2700-DDR3200 (if your mobo supports it). You should see a pretty good performance increase.Personally, I would wait a little while and save up some money so you can get a little better graphics card but that is just me.It has always been my opinion that it is cheaper to do a major upgrade every 1.5 years or so instead of upgrading a little every 6 months.Hope this helps!:) Ark -------------------------- I9 9900K @ 5ghz / 32GB G.Skill (Samsung B) / Aorus Master Mobo / EVGA GTX 2080Ti FTW 3
