May 30, 200323 yr I keep getting a file appearing on my desktop with no name and only ~ as a file extension. No matter what I do I cant get rid of it. If I bin it it appears sometime later. I delete it and it reappears. I cant trace it origin on my computer as lots of files have ~ and there doesnt6 appear to be anything else to identify the source of the file. Its driving me mad as well as making me suspicious about what it doesHelp much appreciatedPeter
May 30, 200323 yr Hi Peter,I'm getting the same thing and have tracked it down to Outlook Express. I'm running WinXP SP1 on a fresh install and every time I send an e-mail, the icon appears with the '~' (tilde) underneath on my desktop. Next time you send an e-mail, check to see if it shows up after you close Outlook.I'm trying to find a cure for this but so far no luck. If I find something on this I'll post it for you.Cheers,JohnBoeing 727/737 Mechanic
May 30, 200323 yr ...and I thought I was the only one. Please keep us informed if modern science finds a cure. Just a few more and we'll have us a support group. Thanks for posting, guys.Rick Rick
May 30, 200323 yr I haven't had anything strange happen since I installed ZONEALARM. I just keep getting these "zonealarm blocked this garbage" message about everytime I open my browser. I suspect you folks have some sort of exe somewhere. The internet has gotten really bad since the Patriot Act was enacted. x( Check the add/remove program and see if anything is in there that wasn't before!! Before, I added zonealarm, I did and found half dozen things installed that I never put there!!

May 30, 200323 yr Hi Rick and Peter,Which OS and mail program are you using? Also, have you done a Windows update lately? I'm trying to track it down and get a cure for this. The other response about ZoneAlarm was interesting but adding a firewall won't fix this problem. I believe it may be associated with a recent Outlook update. It isn't an exe or a virus, just a missplaced piece of information from Outlook.I'll keep you informed.Cheers,JohnBoeing 727/737 Mechanic

May 31, 200323 yr >Fred; that was ment to be funny. Guess some folks have no>sense of humor.I have a fine sense of humor. It should be noted that funny statements on the internet usually have an 'LOL', ;-), or some other indicator of humor and joking, and yours most certainly did not. I apologize to you for misunderstanding.
