NEW ATI RADEON 9800 AND DELL LCD MONITOR-HELP!!

Featured Replies

I just got a new Radeon 9800 card and Dell 17 inch lcd monitor. When I play flight simulator 2002, the trees and other items flicker when flying. If I'm not moving, they are fine. How can i fix this? I also have a problem when inside of the plane, i hear all kinds of popping noises.Does anyone else have a dell 8300 computer with lcd monitor and have the same isssues?thanks!Charles

Charles,Congrats on the new unit. After you get the bugs out it should be a great flying machine. Both the card and computer are so new that there won't be very many here with that combination. You might want to check out the forums at http://forums.us.dell.com/supportforums/Like here, there's a ton of help there and, although your problem is with FlightSim, someone there might give you some ideas on what settings to change, as that sounds like the first thing to try.Phil

Its probably the LCD screen not being able to refresh properly. With some LCD screens if the response time is too high then you get the problems that you are describing. Some LCDs now, the more expensive ones normally have a refresh time of 16ms (milliseconds) or less. Yours might be about 24ms Have a look on your documentation and see what you have.Ive been reading about some reviews with the Dell XPS (next Dell up from yours) and alot of the reviewers when they get the review system are mentioning that fact that if you do get a system for gaming, get a CRT tube monitor instead of the LCD screens you get with the Dell because of the same issues you have. The LCD screens cant keep up with the fast movement in the games.Your sound popping symptons sound interesting. Do you have a Hyper Threaded Pentium 4? and a Soundblaster Audigy2 soundcard. There was issues with the the soundcard drivers not working properly with a HT enabled Pentium4 so you might have to look for a driver update or if you can switch of HT in the bios for now and see if that stops the popping.BTW Im not on a Dell damning mission, LCD screens are all like that in general, I think dells LCD screens are actually made by samsung and are just rebadged etc.Im waiting for the Dell XPS to be released in Europe as I am thinking about getting one but I wont be having a TFT screen with it. The good thing about TFT screens though is the space you save.Craig Kiltie.

Yeah...I just got about the same exact system.P4 2.6 Ghz 800FSB512 pc3200radeon 9800 (non-pro)15 in. dell 1504fp (dvi)onboard sound :60GB ATA100 7200rpmI get sound poping, shimmering tress, and blurry fast moving scenes.Pretty good system overall except that I get some D3D errors with the Catalyst drivers. ($110 extra for a lower clocked version of the 9800 pro)yeah...i was expecting this kind of quality in the monitor when this computer was bought...I really think this is more of a hardware issue that can only be resolved by buying new equiptment.I'm thinking of upgrading to an x-gamer or an oem audigy 2, and a Viewsonic G90FB.
