POP UPS COMING FROM MSN MESSENGER

Featured Replies

How does one keep all these pop-ups from showing up? Never use MSN Messenger but all of the sudden I am getting "ads" for stopping pop up ads? Have Norton personal firewall-antivirus software all up to date but no joy.Any help?

This is not coming from MSN Messenger. This is coming from the Messenger service (big difference LOL). It is recommended to disable it (that service isnt worth having on anymore with the ads). All you have to do in XP is:1) Right-click My Computer, go to Manage. Computer Management opens.2) Go to the left-hand side of the box, and expand Services and Applications. Then click Services.3) Find the service "Messenger" and double-click it.4) On the Startup Type: dropdown, select "Disabled".5) Then hit the stop button under "Service Status" and hit ok.I think that should do it.

Hi Mark, after you've done what Zack suggested (which will get rid of the pop-ups), I recommend you use a spyware removal tool like Ad-aware or Spybot (do a search on Google) to get rid of the program that's causing the pop-ups as well.Cheers,Gosta.http://hifi.avsim.net/activesky/images/wxrebeta.jpg

If you use Outlook Express, make sure that you disable messenger within Outlook Express before you stop the messenger service, otherwise it will take an agonizing long time for Outlook to open.
