February 16, 200422 yr Hi dears,i actually run a P4 2.4B, FSB 533, with 1Go DDR 333 Mhz,and expect to upgrade to a stronger CPU, ie. P4 3.06 Ghz.the mobo chipset is the Intel i865P.Though it supports FSB 800, is it true that I wont be ableto match an 800FSB CPU with some 333Mhz RAM?If so, I have to buy the disappearing P4 3.06ghz fsb 533,instead of some P4 3.0 fsb 800...Last, has hyperthreading anything to do with FSB?I mean, would an FSB 533 prevent me from using the HT technology?...I would alos like to know if you thinkit will make a big differencein fs2004, from my old P4 2.4b to a P4 3.06 ?....
February 17, 200422 yr Hi there, you will be able to use the CPU with your RAM, but you won't get optimal performance, but then your current CPU/RAM combo isn't matched either. So you might as well go for it, and buy some PC3200 RAM at a later date.Hyperthreading has nothing to do with FSB speed, it depends purely on the processor architecure (it says on the box whether it's go HT ;)).You should see some performance gain, but I wouldn't expect anything spectacular.Cheers,Gosta.http://www.hifisim.com/images/as2betateam.jpg
February 17, 200422 yr Author Gosta,Thanks very much for the kind advise. What on another note I dont understand, is you're say
February 17, 200422 yr Hi there, the FSB is usually given in multiples (total output, rather than individual bus speed), e.g. 4x for Intel processors, 2x for AMD and 2x for DDR RAM, so your CPU is running at 4x133MHz = 533MHz, and your RAM is at 2x166MHz = 333MHz. If you slow down your RAM to 2x133MHz (266MHz), it will be synchronised with the CPU and you should see a slight decrease in stutters. You should be able to do this via the BIOS settings on your motherboard.Cheers,Gosta.http://www.hifisim.com/images/as2betateam.jpg
