March 6, 200422 yr My monitor has developed a high pitch squeal over the las few days. It is not a high end monitor but up to know has always worked fine. Can anyone give me any help as to what this might be caused by or if there is anything I can do to stop it before the wife flips out?MAG innovision 19"Alienware P4 3.00 800FSBWin XP1.5gb RAMRadeont 9800 proSB Audigy 2ThanksAndrew Andrew
March 6, 200422 yr Does the monitor squeal when it is ON and the computer OFF? If so, then you may be experiencing a near term failure of the high voltage section. If not, check to see what vertical frequency you are using. Usually the monitor has buttons or switches on the front to open the monitor monitoring window. If it is using 60Hz, right click your desktop, select settings, advanced button, and find the tab where you change the vertical frequency. I would think your monitor could handle 75 to 85Hz.W. March 6, 200422 yr Author Thanks for the reply. I was on 85Hz and I turned it down to 70 and it has seemed to stop. I hope it stays that way it is alot less annoying this way. Also I havent found any drop in performance. To be honest I dont know what effect the refresh rate has. Thanks Again Andrew
March 7, 200422 yr The Vertical or Refresh Frequency determines the rate at which the entire picture is refreshed on your screen. A low refresh frequency will result in flicker. You could try an experiment by setting your refresh frequency to the lowest, look at a screen and see if your eyes detect a noticeable flicker. Increase the VF slightly, then look at the same screen again. Once of the long graphics shots in flight simulator may be a good screen to view.If you cannot detect any discernable difference, running the refresh frequency at the lower frequencies may help in the longevity of your monitor.W. March 18, 200422 yr The Performance is not vulnerable, only the Flickering Effect of the Screen. Two Reasons are possible for your Problem.1. You or somebody increases - without the willing to do that - the Refreshrate or the Screenresolution in the last Days over the allowed Refreshrate of your Monitor. Modern monitors should avout that. They will be detected by Windows and send their maximum Screenrates to Windows and you can
