Changing Aperture Size in Bios of Sony Vaio PCVRx 540

Featured Replies

Hi there, If anyone is familiar with the above system, can you lend some advice with regards to altering the AGP Aperture Size. I've done a google search with no luck. (There's no obvious way of changing it in the bios that I can see)Thanks for any assistanceJ.C. (MYNN)

Hi J.C.,Sony equips their systems with what's called a 'dedicated BIOS', which means that very few tweaking oprions are available to the user, based on the concept that the system is already tuned to 'perfection' by the manufacturer. Also entered into the equation are various legal concerns with regards to restrictions imposed by the component manufacturers to ensure fair competition etc. (for example, Asus may have a contract with Sony to supply a million motherboards for inclusiion in their computers. These mobos would cost only a fraction of the price Asus would charge an individual, but for that Asus would ask for some concessions, i.e. that not all options that are available on the retail boards are contained on the ones supplied to Sony). So, in short - you're stuck with the AGP aperture as set by the manufacturer.Cheers,Gosta.http://www.hifisim.com/images/as2betateam.jpg

Thanks for the reply GostaJ.C. (MYNN)

I have been considering a Sony RS530G because it has a lot of other features I want in a computer. How does the 540 work with FS2004?I have posted 2 times in different forums here and have not had a single responce. I know the sound is on the board but the sound card can be changed out later. Apparently not much information on the Sony's as far as flight simming goes.Steve A
