May 24, 200422 yr Hi, I've just moved house. My connection speed was always 576kbps and it worked OK. At my new house the connection speed is 2.2mbps but it is very slow and laggy. Can anyone explain ? Thanks.Russell.
May 24, 200422 yr well...first of all..im wondering how a internet connection can be laggy.but apart from that. Have u used various speed metres to chcek ur new internet speed? do that first. secondly have you changed isp or what? a bit more info would help :Ddario
May 25, 200422 yr Author Thanks for the reply dario. Laggy--my boys term. he plays online a lot. After moving house he said his charactor was lagging behind his commands to such a degree that it was impossible to compete, like he was on a slow dailup connection. However, when I got home today he said the situation had vastly improved. I've just done a speed check and it shows 492.50kbps. What I don't understand is why it shows a connection speed of 2.2mbps. I'm with the same ISP. just moved 5min walk away from my old address.Russell.
May 25, 200422 yr >he said his charactor was lagging behind his commands to such a degree that it was impossible to compete, like he was on a slow dailupto tell u the truth..it sounds like its the pc's problem...i dunno..but..from experience..when i play online, if the connection is slowed down, its only the "ping" that changes..and not the games performance.Have you personally verified comparing something like..streaming a video clip from the net before and after you moved? You said 2.2mbpsbut according to the telecomunications company?i have the same situation here. THey say "4mbps adsl" but...its not nescessarily true. theres some people who get 700kbps and some who get 4mbps. so, i mean, location also matters. Dario
June 9, 200421 yr Run a tracert to some servers that he plays games on. Also pathping works on win2kj and I believe xp too.Has anything changed on your network? For example, are you now using wireless instead of wired? A lot of people try wireless for gaming and end going back to wired.Maybe your tcp window size needs to be different now. visit dslreports.com and run their tweak test and get the Dr TCP utility. 10700k / Gigabyte 3060
