You can only empty, delete, or restore the recycle bin. If you have Windows Explorer or the Recycle Bin open, select Tools, Folder Options, View tab, and set the following:Hidden files and folders - set "Show Hidden Files and FoldersDeselect - Hide extensions of known file typesDeselect - Hide protected operating systems files (Recommended)Exit this menu, close Windows Explorer/Recycle Bin. Open the Recycle bin to see if you can now see the files.I recently had some of these invisible files also. I emptied the recycle bin but it did say they were Windows files. This was after I updated to WinXP SP2 that I noticed this event.W. Sieffert

Thank you for your help.I did as you suggested but still no files showed in the "Recycle Bin" so after a few minutes thinking what to do I decided to risk it and selected "Empty Recycle Bin"!It took several seconds (seemed like hours :-lol) to empty so there was definitely something there but everything seems to be working fine and my C:Windows folder is still there so... no harm done... I hope!Time to go whipe this cold sweat from my forehead... :-hahThank you once again.
