Computer goes to standby mode, sort of, in FS2004

Featured Replies

My computer has the habit of going into standby mode, while in FS2004. But it's not the usual standby mode. The monitors click on and off. The problem was present in Windows 98, but now that I have Windows XP, the problem is worse. The only way that I can get around the problem is to run FS2004 in safe mode, but I can't do that all of the time. Do I need a new video card? Specs512 MB of RAMWindows XP HomeATI 8500 card1.2 ghz processor.AGP slot 2.0 PCI slot available.

It does sound like a hardware problem since you tried it with two OS's. Did you install the chipset drivers, i.e., Intel, VIA, SiS, AMD, ALi, NForce?W. Sieffert

First, you need to know with chip set you have. Press Start, right click My Computer, select properties, select the Hardware tab, select Device Manager. Once the Device Manager menu is open, select the + sign next to System Devices. Look for:VIA CPU TO AGP CONTROLLERIntel CPU TO AGP Controlleretc.Once you have this information, search the internet for the chipset vendor, i.e., Intel, VIA, SiS, AMD, ALi, NForce. Install the correct drivers for the windows version you have installed.W. Sieffert
