Oh man, you're hosed. Never seen a message like that...ever. Is this an SP2 thing or what?Either way, I run Zone Alarm Pro AND Trend Micro Internet Security. 4 years and counting with both those products and not one problem, knock on wood. Sorry, I can't help. You need to got to a computer forum place where they can help, like http://www.dslreports.com/forum/security Chris KPHXAsus A8V Deluxe | AMD 64 3200+ | 1 GB Kingston DDR400 | Nvidia 6600GT 128MB | Sb Audigy 2 | 120 GB Seagate ATA100 | Windows XP Pro SP1 | FS9.1 | CH Yoke & Pedals

no the virus embeds itself in the OS and installs itself into the registry and file system. It masks itself as a windows alert so you download the total package and bam, youre infected.

Dang...Do you have a Broadband Internet Connection??Do you have Antivirus Software?? You do don't you??I know your not going to like this...But sorry...If I were in your shoes I would personally blow the OS off and start over...Sorry...Here are some general guidelines I think are important for folks using a Broadband Internet Connection:1) If you have a Broadband Internet Connection I would HIGHLY recommend a piece of hardware called a Router!! (This will go in between your modem and your computer...It will serve as a Hardware Firewall and be the First Line of Defense in your Internet Security...(A most important one at that!!)...I would Recommend (if you can) to have this in place before you connect to the Internet on a clean install of your OS...If that is not possiable then ASAP there after...(Example):http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.asp?...N82E168331240072) Do not hook a modem up to your computer until you have installed AntiVirus Software...The First thing to do AS SOON as you connect to the internet is to UpDate the AntiVirus software!! Always keep your AntiVirus software set to Automatically Update...I can Highly Recommend this (Free for Home Users):http://www.avast.com/eng/avast_4_home.html(Perform a Through Scan of your computer after your up and running at full capacity...(ie: end of the first day of web surfing)...Perform virus scans on a regular basis thereafter)3) Do Not use Microsoft Internet Explorer as a web Browser...Use Mozilla Firefox Instead...(Free Also):http://www.mozilla.com/firefox/(I personally wouldn't connect to the internet one time with Internet Explorer)4) Be Sure that Microsoft WindowsXP is set to Automatically Update!! I would also recommend to let it automatically install the updates for most users...After a fresh install of Windows...make this Updating a Priority second only to Updating Your AntiVirus Software...5) Before you connect to the internet...Make sure Windows Firewall is turned on...(Requires SPII)...If you have XP with SPI...Make sure after WindowsXP Downloads the SPII Update...To turn on Windows Firewall...(Note: If you have a Router Installed...you can use your own judgement about Windows Firewall...I personally do not use Windows Firewall since I have the Router...I find the Router and Antivirus Software to be sufficient...Do this at your own Risk!!)6) Download and use AdAware SE (Free):http://www.download.com/Ad-Aware-SE-Person...ubj=dl&tag=top57) Download and use SpyBot Search and Destroy (Free):http://www.safer-networking.org/en/download/index.html(Update and Run Both AdAware and Spybot Checks on your computer on a regular basis) 8) A handy tool to clean up with:http://www.ccleaner.com/9) When you get all set-up...Here are some links to check your machine out...http://www.hackerwatch.org/probe/http://scan.sygatetech.com/http://www.pcflank.com/about.htm(You Should Be 100% Stealth)Here is some decent info:http://www.firewallguide.com/faq.htmGood Luck...

Now I have a vested interest in this thread myself...It got my Mother/Sisters computer too..."Spy Sheriff"...Thanks for all the links!!

Yeah this spyaxe is a nasty piece of softwareI am doing some testing and i think i have got rid of the problemI am following this from another siteQ: SpyAxe/Smitfraud Removal (#13542) A: The Smitfraud family of desktop hijackers that popup a brightly colored screen over the desktop that displays a warning message that your computer is infected with spyware and telling you to buy/download/install any of the following to remove it. Security IGuard Virtual Maid Search Maid AntiVirusGold PSGuard RazeSpyware SpyAxe SpySheriff The following steps may not clean all of it, but should be a good start and will restore the desktop to default at least so you can proceed with complete removal using various tools. 1. Print out or save to notepad these instructions as we will need to do most steps offline and in SAFE MODE (so you won't have this window open to see the instruction from) 2. Download this free tool called SmitRem and save the file to your desktop. Get the download here:
