January 4, 200620 yr Ggot a question about virus protection. When I got this Dell a year ago I also installed Norton virus protection . >((( it seems to work fine, BUT, the subscription is up in a couple weeks and I want to change products. Everyone I've spoken with says Norton is a disaster. Well, trying to contact them is impossible --Like DELL..:>)I came across a good review of-- BITDEFENDER. Ever hear of it? or does anyone have another recommendation? I also use the windows firewall which seems to work fine and Adaware..Many thanks,Bill
January 4, 200620 yr Hello,I use BitDefender for months including the anti-spam and firewall, it's a good product less heavy and complicated than the one you use .I also had Norton and I can tell you it is difficult to uninstall completly !! January 4, 200620 yr Author Thanks Emile,I also heard it was difficult to totally uninstall Norton. Suppose I just turn everythng off?I can also go to the local computer genius...Bill
January 4, 200620 yr Hi Bill,There are articles on the Symantec website on how to "totally"?? remove NAV. You might do a search on their FAQ site.I'm also interested in your thread- I have reformatted following a new mobo install and have yet to install a virus application, but had NAV in before and am reluctant to re-install it. However, having a safe machine is more important to me than performance ... :).FYI, this thread here:http://forums.avsim.net/dcboard.php?az=sho..._id=11941&page=Bruce. ASEL, Instrument. January 5, 200620 yr Author Hello Bruce,You're way ahead of me. 'mobo'install-haven't a clue...I just uninstalled NAV and installed Bitdefender. which immediately screwed up, wouldn't let me register, crashed my computer, dumped my incoming emails in the "deleted' folder. :>( So I called that guy in India we all know so well.. :>)) spent 45 minutes on the phone. If it had been someone who could speak English it would have taken 10 minutes. (But people in China can't understand my Chinese either.)At least I could contact someone.Impossible with NAV, or DELL, or Logitech, or...It's working for the moment but the spam program seems to be more complicated than NAV.. I'll see how it is. It's probably just me, not liking to fool with computers AT ALL.. I don't like flying electrons.. just beethoven, mahler and calypso.... and sushiI did check that other thread....Cheers,
January 5, 200620 yr Hi Bill,Sounds like you had some time getting that other anti-virus app to work properly! I'm still thinking about what my best corse of action is on that front.Thanks- and I hope it all keeps working!Bruce. ASEL, Instrument. KBJC, Colorado.

January 5, 200620 yr Author I actually used the live assist twice before i bought it. and it was very helpfulThis a.m. the tool bar in my email program is gone, the one that allows you to indicate messages as spam, not spam, friends, etc.. and last night my computer had the 'blue screen' crash meltdown. "Closing windows to save its life. :>)... check Bios, drivers, etc"... I had to unplug the computer to get it off. fun.. :>))
