February 21, 200620 yr Just invested in a Pentium D 930 syetm with 2Gb of Ram and a 256Mb 7800GT but I'm a little concerned about this "dual-core" thing in relation to games that don't yet support d-c tech.DOes this mean that in effect some games will only harness oneo f the cores and whether this will be at 1.5Ghz or at th 3Ghz speed (as aoposed to 3Ghz or 6Ghz respectively).Sorry for the noobish question. Been out of the CPU buying market for about 3-4 years.

February 23, 200620 yr The chip has two cores.Do those cores each run at 1.5GHz (a sum of 3.0GHz) or are there two 3Ghz cores? My fear would be that in effect, for software that doesn't support dual-core technology yet, in the former circumstances I have, in effect, bought a three year-old machine* as only one core can be utilsed for some games.I've only seen a handful of games - CoD 2, Doom III for example - that take advantage of the dual-core tech.*####, even my current XP2700+ runs at 2.2GHz.
February 24, 200620 yr Dual core means you have 2 3GHZ cores, so if a game takes advantage of both you could have 6GHZ of processing power but since FS does not take advantage, the game will have 1 3GHZ core to use. You could then set FS to realtime on one core and then windows will still have the second core to use.
February 26, 200620 yr That being said, Wouldnt Fs9 run better on a single 3.8 CPU than a dual core 3.0?Rob
February 27, 200620 yr Probably but maybe the new FSX will accomodate the dual core processing..Regards,jack
