April 20, 200620 yr Hi - I have an older machine I've decided to dedicate to FS... I am waiting (mostly) until FSX to get a new rig, so figured it was a good time to "recondition" the old box.Basically (among other things) I'll be reformatting the hard drive, and am wondering whether to reinstall Win98SE or if I should bother loading XP.Any suggestions appreciated. The rig is as follows:Dell XPS T500 upgraded to Tualatin 1.2 ghz384 megs ramDiamond Viper 770 ultra 32[edit] Whoops, almost forgot - I have a cable for a power supply upgrade which I purchased early last year with the intent of putting a larger power supply in and upgrading my video card. I'll still do this if I might be able to use this rig to run another monitor (or whatever) when I eventually build a new machine.Don't know if it matters, but I also would like to run TrackIR 4 and USA Roads. Thanks,Andrew H e l p k e e p A V S I M f l y i n g
April 20, 200620 yr A pentium3 system is these days a VERY dated system, Just by looking at your specs and wanting to use USRoads on it. I doubt it will run nicely. In any case first off you should install XP since most (new) add-ons require XP at minimum, Second 384MB Ram forget it, XP minimun at least 512MB (add even more to run games like fs) third a 32MB graphics card aint gonna cut it unless you run it on the very lowwwwest settings, and incase of fs veryyy low, to the point where it probally looks like crap.my best guess it aint gonna run
April 20, 200620 yr Author Uh - I guess I should have clarified - I have already run FS9 plus USA Roads on the system for quite some time.With USA Roads, I generally got about 12 fps, higher with some settings turned down.I think the Tualatin is a Celeron 1.2. Not sure.Not fantastic, but it worked.---Andrew H e l p k e e p A V S I M f l y i n g
April 20, 200620 yr oh ok, well with 98 you will get slightly better performance since its not that resource "hungry" as xp. On the other hand, most new add-on require minimum to be xp. Stick with 98 if you dont run an addon like pmdg.
April 22, 200620 yr During FS9 beta testing, FS9 ran better with XP over 98SE. I used the same computer dual booted to make the comparisons.W. Sieffert Bill Sieffert
