May 6, 200620 yr Hi all,I was wondering if some kind soul out in FS-Land could help me with the settings for an XFX GeForce 6600 256MB card (this is the "Plain Jane" one, not the GS or GT).I recently upgraded to this card from an ATI Radeon 9200 128mb card. With the old card I had a nice smooth transition from the sky to the horizon (using the ATI "Table Fog=0") line in the FS9.cfg file. However, with this Nvidia based card, now there is always a haze it seems, and the aircraft has a circle of white around it on the horizon between the sky and horizon that I didn't have before. This has my stymied...I've tried changing any setting I can think of in FSUIPC (registered ver 3.60), ActiveSky ver 4.5 and FS9 itself. I hate having that white circle around the horizon...any suggestions will be VERY appreciated. I'm using the ForceWare 84.21 drivers. Thanks in advance,ScottKJMS "...now let's get this thing on the hump - we've got some flyin' to do!" ~ Major Kong from "Dr. Stranglove" Scott Cebula
May 6, 200620 yr These settings helped me getting rid of some image quality issues with my XFX, each machine behaves differently though, but its worth a try. Inside fs everything is to the right cept for the water, just leaving it in the middle does it for me.[DISPLAY]UPPER_FRAMERATE_LIMIT=34TEXTURE_BANDWIDTH_MULT=500[TERRAIN]TERRAIN_ERROR_FACTOR=80.000000TERRAIN_MIN_DEM_AREA=30.000000TERRAIN_MAX_DEM_AREA=150.000000TERRAIN_MAX_VERTEX_LEVEL=21TERRAIN_TEXTURE_SIZE_EXP=8TERRAIN_AUTOGEN_DENSITY=3TERRAIN_USE_GRADIENT_MAP=1TERRAIN_EXTENDED_TEXTURES=1TERRAIN_DEFAULT_RADIUS=9.000000TERRAIN_EXTENDED_RADIUS=9.000000TERRAIN_EXTENDED_LEVELS=8
May 6, 200620 yr Author Thanks, I'll give those a try when I get home from work. Were you having the strange horizon displays also?Regards,ScottKJMS "...now let's get this thing on the hump - we've got some flyin' to do!" ~ Major Kong from "Dr. Stranglove" Scott Cebula
May 6, 200620 yr Yeah had that too, my horizon always looked to "hard" or sharp, dont know how to explain, just didnt look good. Also had somekind of "blurry terrain area" around my aircraft.. kinda like a line up to an inch above the panel that showed a border of blurry and sharp scenery. Close to the ac it would stay blurry,. (not the same as common blurry issues) as the rest of the terrain was crisp and clear..this was just an area of about a few feet around the ac
May 6, 200620 yr Author Hi Davis,Yes, what you describe is what I've been seeing. Thanks for the settings you posted. I changed my fs9.cfg file to reflect those and it really helped alot.Regards,ScottKJMS "...now let's get this thing on the hump - we've got some flyin' to do!" ~ Major Kong from "Dr. Stranglove" Scott Cebula
May 11, 200620 yr Hi Scott,I have the same spec for your video card, but it is ASUS. I also had similar problem where you have the white circle below the planes and hazy looking all around the plane with no horizon with limited texture detail. It is even more obvious when flying to the water. I was using the latest nvidia. The problem remain when i change it back to my old FX5800.However, when i switch back to 81.xx, that problem went away as well as incorporating the suggested setting from the above poster, the quality is amazing. So, the best solution for you is to install 81.xx driver. I think there is some bugs with 84 series driver>Hi all,>>I was wondering if some kind soul out in FS-Land could help me>with the settings for an XFX GeForce 6600 256MB card (this is>the "Plain Jane" one, not the GS or GT).>>I recently upgraded to this card from an ATI Radeon 9200 128mb>card. May 11, 200620 yr Hey Avi,No need to "think" if there are bugs with the forcewares lately ;) there ARE bugs :( ... just be carefull messin' between driver versions..because as soon as you crank up AA/AF certain versions will give you the dreaded "black box" problem.. What i mean is lets say you now have 81.xx right.. and you have AA/AF not at max, it works great. Then lets say someone follows your advice, but decides that they run AA/AF at max, they might get more problems. Each system behaves diffrently.. so not that your advice is not appreciated dont get me wrong :) just heads up advising Nvid people to get a certain driver version.. best mess with the settings first using their current drivers and use driver switching as a last resort, until Nvid decides to fix the issues
May 11, 200620 yr Yeah, should be more specific....Nvidia 81.98, no AF/AA for me. Used fs9.cfg setting provided by the poster in this thread. In Fs2004, Trileaner filter, setting of 4 for MIP and T&L, Massive, Checked all except AA, locked at 23, 1280x1024x16
May 11, 200620 yr Ya those .cfg settings from the "poster" came from me :( ....even with being specific with a driver version, use it as a last resort use fs settings first and see if you can fix the issues that way.."no AF/AA for me"ehmm your NOT using AA/AF at all?? :-hmmm not on the card either, what about your image quality Jaggies all over the place if I run no AA/AF
May 11, 200620 yr Author Hi all,In addition to the suggested settings posted earlier in this thread, I also a few days ago changed from the 84.12's to the 81.98's. That made a world of difference, and coupled with some setting changes in FSUIPC made that white band on the horizon go away. Things are still a little hazier than I like, but I can learn to live with it, I guess. Thanks to all who responded!Regards,ScottKJMS "...now let's get this thing on the hump - we've got some flyin' to do!" ~ Major Kong from "Dr. Stranglove" Scott Cebula
May 11, 200620 yr Yeah, I thought about it, but the AA/AF would sorta reduce the overall performance. What would be the best setting without compromising performance? what is 8xS and 16x? setting thru fs9 or windows?ThanksTom
May 12, 200620 yr Author With the XFX GeForce 6600 256MB card I'm running AA at 2Qx and AF at 4x. I'm setting that through the Nvidia control panel. I tried running at AA 4x, but FS9 didn't like that at all - had some weird displays.Regards,ScottKJMS "...now let's get this thing on the hump - we've got some flyin' to do!" ~ Major Kong from "Dr. Stranglove" Scott Cebula
May 12, 200620 yr AA setting in fs a big NONO. use the card for the settings, and as to performance. what system are you running?
