After building my new pc things were looking good, my frame rates seemed invinceable but now the pc restarts in the middle of fs. I have an NVIDIA GeFroce 7900GT and when the system rebooted error reporting said I had recovered from a serious error. MS said I should set hardware excelleration to none and get the latest drivers. I had the latest drivers and when i set the acceleration to none fs would give me a message saying "The drivers currently installed for your video card may cause your computer to stop responding when FLight Simulator is running. What should I do? Send the card back and buy an ati?

First go here www.memtest86.com and run Memtest, If memory is corrupted errors occur. Next to that what windows version are you using? What error message (the code, not the actual message) did you get on the screen?. Have you uninstalled the current forceware and used drivercleaner to clean up the leftovers?. Have you reinstalled directx first and then installed the latest forceware?. As far as sending the card back and getting an ATI, the 7900 runs fs just fine on many systems, so really troubleshoot first.ps."MS said I should set hardware excelleration to none" did an actual techie from MS say that or did you get that of a support website?. Seems strange to get that advice.

I got the advice from the website that comes up after the error reporting. I did uninstall the drivers with drive cleaner. If you do a google search you can see that the 7900GT in particular has many lock up issues and I think I would like to be back to the saftey of an ati card. From my experiences ati has been more solid that nvidia.

I also did directx tests and no problems were found.

I also had the same rebooting issue with 3dmark 3. After that i did your procedure again and instead of rebooting the images were tearing, sometimes worse than others. At the end of the tests the monitor flashed black and then on every second, it also stopped responding so i had to push the button. After the reinstal sw20.exe also fails and I get a box that says "fail" when windows starts.

Ran the test again, got a lock up followed by a reboot.

After reading this line of posts, I have attempted to do all the stuff others recommended to you. Were you able to figure out what your issue was? Ever since I got my motherboard replaced, I have been getting the same indications. I haven't run memtest yet since I can't figure out how to use it, but I have updated my chipset and audio drivers but it still happens. I am using an NVIDIA GeForce 6800 card and I also switched to the Forceware 94.20 drivers.

To put more information out there, I am using the Matrox Triple Head to Go and the Windows error isError message: STOP 0x000000EA THREAD_STUCK_IN_DEVICE_DRIVERWould this be a problem with the Matrox? I downloaded the latest drivers and had fs9 optimized at 3840 x 1024 x 32 (highest setting).Anyone else experience this?

1.As how to use Memtest.. just download either the zip or iso, and burn it onto a cd or floppy and boot from either one.. ther main program is pretty self explanatory ..2.What you might try to do, if not so already.. is reinstall the drivers but before UNinstall all previous traces with drivercleaner an ccleaner if desired... Your error has to do with write combing and is/was a problem mainly with nvidia GPU's, however its also a known issue on the Matrox forum, maybe best to post there too.

When I did the full system restore, my drivers should also have been erased. I reinstalled with the same indications. I updated all drivers I could think of and still had the problem. Just for the heck of it, I went to the store for a new video card (since I could just return it if it still failed). I purchased an ATI card and didn't have any errors. I then purchased another NVIDIA card and had no errors. Because I did all the software troubleshooting first, I believe my video card was dying. I will doublecheck on the matrox forum though just to rule anything out.Eric
