  1. OK I fixed my issues this morning with IS3. When I installed IS3, I had IS2 installed already. I uninstalled both and then reinstalled IS3. No problems now! Eric
  2. I posted a similar topic in the Flight1 forums, but haven't heard anything, so I decided to ask another audience. Has anyone been successful in getting Instant Scenery 3 working fully in a windows 8.1 environment? I'm currently creating a scenery for FS2004 and my addon sceneries aren't pulling up like they used to. I just switched over to windows 8.1 from windows xp, so that might be the issue. I've gone through disabling UAC, running as as admin, etc. I can open some of the files using IS3, and can add, view, and place the new files I generated, but I cannot see the older FS2004 addon sceneries found out there on the web. I'm sure what to make of it. I confirmed the textures are in the appropriate places. I am able to open and view the models correctly in ModelConverterX, but it still didn't work when I attempted to regenerate a library file using that program and then trying to use that library in FS2004 using IS3. I saw that Flight1 doesn't officially support Window 8, so maybe that's why I haven't heard anything. I thought Windows 8 was based on Windows 7 code though, so I wouldn't expect them to act differently within the game. I'm not a software engineer though, so maybe that's not true. Anyway, just asking if anyone has gotten it working fully in FS2004 or FSX. Maybe there's some config setting I need to check. Thanks, Eric
  3. Do you mean that the aircraft is banking just prior to touchdown or after landing? If still in the air, it wouldn't be the AFCAD unless you're flying on GPS and one of your waypoints is off (which you can verify by checking the GPS approach). Are you using Active Sky with wake turbulence active? That's the only time I've ever experienced a last minute bank when landing. Eric
  4. Thanks. I'll have to do more research to understand why SSDs help. Eric
  5. I'm looking for some help with two laptops I found on Best Buy's website and which one is preferable for a combined FS9/FSX rig. To back up, I'm looking for a laptop, since it's more portable (obviously), and it needs to be from Best Buy since I'm using Best Buy gift cards to fund most of the purchase (redeeming my Capital One miles for a worthy cause). I've read some through these forums over the last few months, and I have to admit, I'm still a little confused on what's good and what's not. I understand that SSDs are great for boot up time and FS only after it's been booted once before so it's in RAM. From what I've read, I'm not certain if the SSD will do anything for me once FS is running. If I'm wrong here, please let me know. The second laptop has a faster HDD. Having only really messed around with FS9, I'm not certain as to what would make both sims (FS9 and FSX) hum nicely. Can someone help? Can laptops be overclocked? I've never done that, so have no clue really on that capability. Also, I've read some say that Win 7 is better than Win 8, but I've talked to people who say that Win 8 isn't that bad once you get used to it and is actually Win 7 with some more efficient items (not sure what though). Here are the 2 laptops I've been looking at. I'm looking at spending under $2K. 6. Hi all, This is for FS2004. I'm attempting to add an effect to a tower's antenna. What I've done is create a box located at the top and run the attachtool script in GMax to attempt to attach it. I want the effect to show in dawn, dusk and night. I must not be doing it right since nothing is showing. First question: Is there a way to view an effect outside of FS2004? I have amassed over 700 files in my effects folder. How do I know which ones to use for a red light on the top of a tower? Second question: If I want the light to show in dawn, dusk and night, how do I fill in multiple parameters in the parameters area? Do I use a semi-colon between each (e.g. DAWN=1;DUSK=1;DAY=0;NIGHT=1)? or just hit enter? DAWN=1 DUSK=1 DAY=0 NIGHT=1 I haven't been able to find any tutorials about effects on FSDeveloper that help me. Can someone more experienced give me some help? Thanks, Eric
  7. I currently own ASE on one computer with windows XP and have FSX installed on another comuter with Windows 7 64 bit. Will I be able to install AS2012 on this second computer? Does AS2012 check my computer for ASE?Thanks,Eric
  8. Hi all,I am redoing KBGM in FS2004, and redid the AFCAD using AFX (to add the proper taxiway signs). When attempting to fly the ILS to rw34, I noticed that the ILS localizer and glideslope did not work. I tried the default cessna as well as other payware, but couldn't get it to work. I searched online and only found a post about issues that might arise if backcourse is enabled. I disabled on both, but the ILS still doesn't work. Any ideas on what the issue might be? If anyone wants the file to look at, I'll send it to you.Sincerely,Eric
  9. Looks like my issue was solved with a little forced air cleaning out the dust from inside my computer. I cleaned it and fired up the sim to the same conditions. No more issues. I had a little hint from my first post in 2008 that it was easy. Can't be easier than cleaning off your video card (and other components).Eric
  10. Thanks for the help. I'll give it a try and report back. I haven't changed a thing on my Newark scenery or any of my NVidia settings in quite a while, so I think I'm also go to crack the case on my computer and check for dust. Maybe that's the issue.Eric
  11. I had an issue with Imaginesim's KEWR back in Nov 08 that I posted about in the FS2004 forum. I got help in the form of a link. This link no longer works, due to the forum upgrade. I tried adding a 1 to the forum address, but it didn't work. Is there another way to figure out what this linked to? Below is the original link provided to me. can I search by the topic ID? I figured out that the forum 263 is the FS2004 forum, but couldn't search beneath that.http://forums.avsim.net/dcboard.php?az=sho...ing_type=searchEric
  12. Hey Chuck,I just had this issue again with KEWR. Unfortunately, the link you provided me previously no longer works. I tried tweaking it to work with the new forum system, but couldn't. Do you happen to remember this issue and how you searched for it? I want to make sure this time I actually post the solution rather than some obscure reference to my NVidia card! I haven't changed anything to it, so it's weird this happened again a year and a half later. Thanks,Eric
  13. I was clearing out my emails and came across this. Did you get a chance to head up there? I thought I heard that the weather up in NY wasn't so good.Eric
  14. Thanks everyone! Wow. Wouldn't even have thought of associating those two things together.Eric
  15. While I appreciate the responses, I'm not referring to the aircraft radius for parking purposes including anything having to do with AFCAD. When you fire up the sim and select an aircraft, it shows up in the preview screen. As a default the Cessna 172 is the one looking at you when you first come up. It's that view I wish to change. How can you increase the size of the aircraft showing up in that view? It appears to have some correlation to the spot plane view. When I view the SkySim DC-9 in spot plane view, it is very far away. Is it possible to modify this to be closer as a default? Eric
  16. I purchased the SkySimulations DC-9, and one annoying thing is when you select the aircraft from the FS9 menu. When the aircraft shows up in the preview screen rotating, it is much farther away than the other aircraft I select. Also, when the aircraft is brought up in the sim, the view from outside is just as far, leading you to attempt to zoom in on it. Is there a way to fix this or do you need to have to modify something within the aircraft itself prior to compiling it? I've never understood how to adjust this and I wasn't able to find anything by searching. Thanks,Eric
  17. Christoph,I can't answer about whether the company is alive or not. Their website is still up and running. I would agree that their lack of a support forum is hugely annoying since they have not responded to one of my emails to them. Regarding repaints, I will be posting the -30,-40 and -50 with new Delta colors within the next few days. I love flying the DC-9 and I agree that for the most part, this aircraft is very well done.Eric
  18. Thank you so much. If possible, please include the ANG buildings too, since that appears to take up a good portion of one side of the airport. I'd appreciate anything you could get for me.Regarding the other post, I did visit the Syracuse website, and some of the pics seemed ok, but I couldn't zoom in on them to get better detail. Maybe I'll email them too to see if they will send something to me.Sincerely,Eric
  19. Hello everyone.I'm looking to rebuild Syracuse NY (KSYR), but I'm finding it difficult to find close shots of the airport buildings. I've looked online at airliners, but of course, the focus there is the aircraft, and not the buildings. I can use Bing maps for 360 degree views, but if anyone has some closer shots of the buildings there, could you please let me know. The lack of good, close shots of the airport buildings is making it hard. I like to have sceneries that closely resemble the real thing.Sincerely,Eric
  20. Well I deleted all my FSUIPC settings to see if that was the problem. Didn't work. Am I missing the place to turn on the avionics? I have to do that through a keystroke entry. Not sure if there's another way but I have to manually turn on avionics after starting the engines. I have no problem until I attempt to go to idle throttle. Then the engines go haywire. I wish I could figure out why mine isn't working but others works (like yours apparently). Thanks for helping.Eric
  21. Hi,I already asked for help at PAD, but Bob at support said that he couldn't help since the panel was donated to them. I'm referring to the special edition panel by Jean-Pierre Langer and associates. Basically, when reducing power, the engines go crazy and eventually the airplane overspeeds. Has anyone figured out how to fix this issue? It's not a gauge conflict since I cleared out my gauge folder and only used the gauges they gave (in the panel folder) and also the default GPS. It's too bad. I wanted to have fun with this one since it had a nice VC.I looked in all the documentation, but there wasn't any contact info for the developers.Eric
  22. Thanks Luis.Looks like many ACs in your list have been cancelled. I was able to find AC 150/5345-46D labeled Specification for Runway and Taxiway Light Fixtures from the FAA website.I've learned some of GMax including the ground polys and 3D objects for day and night textures, but have never done anything with effects. Is there a reason why AFCAD-generated lights do not show through my custom ground polys? Is it because of the way AFCAD creates those objects? Ed Cox recommended FSSC for the runway lights so I'll play around with that.EricEDIT: Looking again, the correct AC is AC 150/5340-30D for spacing of lighting.
  23. Hi all,I've been recreating a small GA airport to get familiar with custom ground polys and know that if I use one, I can no longer see the airport lighting provided by default FS9 or AFCAD. Ed Cox was nice enough to give me his 3D taxiway light, but I'm not really sure how to create the other lighting on the runway. Is that just an effect? If I use a 3D runway light, will it be seen far away? I just saw the other thread on the API and changing the texture, but wasn't sure if my questions fell into that area.Last question. What are the rules governing placement of airport lighting? Does anyone know the FAA rules governing this or where I can download it? I found the airport markings AC, but not anything to do with appropriate distances between runway/taxiway/apron lighting so I know how to place the objects correctly. Thanks,Eric
