September 20, 200619 yr After a hardware failure in my current FS PC (A 3.8ghz P4) a few weeks ago, I ordered a new Intel Core Duo E6600 system which will arrive tomorrow. I was originally planning on building my own, but I just moved my parents down to my house to make their lives easier (No stairs) so I have boxes all over the place at the moment and no room to build a new system for a while. Since I can't wait (Always been a problem for me!!:D ) I ordered 1 from Gateway. It's a E6600 with 2GB 667Mhz DDR2 mem 512GB Raid 0 (2x256GB 7200RPM drives) and a X1900 512MB Crossfire card. (Only option available for this system, other than dual X1900 cards.) I was going to go for an Alienware with similar specs but with a NVidia 7900GT card (SLI capable MB) and 800Mhz ddr2 mem. Price though was higher and delivery wouldn't be til late Oct. So I went with a Gateway FX510XG instead. The one thing I did, was decline the Win XP meda edition and went for the regular home edition instead. I don't need those extra features and I figured the regular XP would require less resources. I'm hoping to recover my old data from my Hard drive so hopefully I'll be up and running soon. My backup was also connected to the failed system at the time of the system failure, so I'm not sure if that was compromised or corrupted too. Wish me luck!! September 21, 200619 yr Author Thanks Guys! From everything I've heard and read about the Core 2 Duo I'm sure I'll be happy with it!! I just hope I can recover my data from my current drive or backup. The system I'm using now (an older P4 2.0Ghz) does not support the SATA drives so I can't check if it's ok until I get the new system, which BTW UPS has rescheduled delivery for tomorrow!! :( (Must have missed it's flight!!) So I have another day to wait!! Thanks Tom My Youtube Videos! http://www.youtube.com/user/tf51d
