I am thinking of upgrading my Asus A8N-SLI + Athalon 4000 for the new Intel Conroe 6700. I will need to buy a new motherboard and memory but will keep my Asus 7800GT until DX 10 arrives. I am interested if I will see a noticeable improvement in frame rates. I usually fly PMDG 747/LDS767 etc with Ultimate Terrain/Active Sky/GE pro etc etc and find at a busy hub my framerates drop to around 8-10fps this is obviously in FS9... so before I bite the bullet anyone who has upgraded I would love to know your thoughts.......

Unfortuneately due to a H/W problem it is only clocking at 1/2 speed (1.2 Ghz) so it is actually slower than the system I had before. After a couple of weeks of going back and forth with tech support and finally diagnosing the problem as H/W, I'm awaiting a replacement from Gateway! I just found out that they are upgrading me to their new FX530XG system which has a E6700 CPU (And will also be compatible with the Quad Core Duo's when available), 2GB, Dual ATI X1950 Crossfire cards with 512Mb. The only thing I'm not sure of is if I'm getting the 2 150GB 10000 RPM SATA Raid 0 hard drives, which is standard with this system, or the 2 250 GB 7200RPM SATA Raid 0 drives which my system has now? Either way I'll take it. Of course this screws up my activation for FSX, so I'll have to go through the phone activation process, but that's a small price to pay!! It seems what first seemed to be a bad situation (For me) turned out to come out pretty good afterall!! Here's hoping whatever you choose (And I do think the Core 2 Duo's have the edge over AMD at the moment!!) works out well for you!!
