January 22, 200719 yr Hi,Here's another challenge for the experts amongst you :)On examining the events recorded in Event Viewer under Applications I have noted a recurrent error listed as LoadPerf. This, I think, can be corrected. I clear all events under Applications to achieve a fresh start. For a time all seems well but, after a while, it always returns and I don't know why.Event ID: 3011Double clicking the entry produces the following description:"Unloading the performance counter strings for service WMIApRpl (WMIApRpl) failed. The error code is the first DWORD in Data Section."I followed the Microsoft link to try to learn more and this is what I come up with:"Details Product: Windows Operating System Event ID: 3011 Source: LoadPerf Version: 5.2 Symbolic Name: LDPRFMSG_UNLOAD_FAILURE Message: Unloading the performance counter strings for service %1!s! (%2!s!) failed. The Error code is the first DWORD in Data section. Explanation The performance counter could not unload the strings for the specified service. The registry might be corrupted. User Action To rebuild the string tables:On the computer that displayed the message, at the command prompt, typeLodctr /r"The file in question is loadperf.dll and so the full command is: lodctr /r:loadperf.dllThe command executes without any reported errors.Does anyone know what is going on here? Should I be concerned and, if so, is there a more permanent solution? There you are. First to solve this one gets a virtual beer!Mike :)
January 22, 200719 yr It sucks to be you. ;-)See http://www.mcse.ms/message1549775.htmlRead the whole post before you do anything, though. Also, are you using an ATI video card with WinXP set to optimize system memory for cache (versus for applications)? This error code used to be associated with failed writebacks on NT servers, and the only thing I know that consistently causes failed disk cache writebacks these days is an ATI video driver together with that system memory setting.RegardsBob ScottATP IMEL Gulfstream II-III-IV-VSantiago de Chile Bob Scott | President and CEO, AVSIM Inc ATP Gulfstream II-III-IV-V Sys1 (MSFS20+24/XPlane12+11): AMD 9800X3D, water 2x240mm, MSI MPG X670E Carbon, 64GB GSkill 6000/30, nVidia RTX4090FE Alienware AW3821DW 38" 21:9 GSync, 2x4TB Crucial T705 PCIe5 + 2x2TB Samsung 990 SSD, EVGA 1000P2 PSU, 12.9" iPad Pro Thrustmaster TCA Boeing Yoke, TCA Airbus Sidestick, Twin TCA Airbus Throttle quads, PFC Cirrus Pedals, Coolermaster HAF932 case Sys2 (P3Dv5/v4): i9-13900KS, water 2x360mm, ASUS Z790 Hero, 32GB GSkill 7800MHz CAS36, ASUS RTX4090 Samsung 55" JS8500 4K TV@60Hz, 3x 2TB WD SN850X 1x 4TB Crucial P3 M.2 NVME SSD, EVGA 1600T2 PSU Fiber link to Yamaha RX-V467 Home Theater Receiver, Polk/Klipsch 6" bookshelf speakers, Polk 12" subwoofer, 12.9" iPad Pro PFC yoke/throttle quad/pedals with custom Hall sensor retrofit, Thermaltake View 71 case, Stream Deck XL button box Sys3 (DCS/P3Dv4/ATS/ETS): AMD 7800X3D, MSI MPG X870E Carbon, Noctua NH-D15S, 64GB GSkill 6000/30, EVGA RTX3090 Alienware AW3420DW 34" 21:9 GSync, Corsair HX1000i PSU, 4TB Crucial T705 PCIe5 + 2TB Samsung 970Evo Plus, TM TCA Officer Pack, Saitek combat pedals, TM Warthog, TM RS300 FF wheel/pedals, Coolermaster HAF XB case
January 23, 200719 yr Author Hi Bob,You've never said a truer word! Sorry to drag you into this.Sometimes I think I bring it on myself :( I recently updated my graphics drivers to Omega 3.8.330 (Catalyst 7.1) and since then I've found several benchmarking programs are playing up: 3DMark 03 and 05 no longer complete (although 06 does) without a system freeze while loading half way through the bench. Aquamark3 runs, but won't exit gracefully to the results screen requiring a system reset. A real pain and I'm now wondering whether Omega and/or ATI have slipped up this time around."are you using an ATI video card with WinXP set to optimize system memory for cache (versus for applications)?"...Yes, an X800 XL and XP's processor scheduling and memory usage are both set for Applications. Although tempted fleetingly in the recent past to experiment, I decided instead to leave well alone. I read the post, but I'm afraid I'm way out of my depth. It would be interesting if others would look at their Event Viewer under Applications and see whether I am alone with this. To be honest, I would rather be told it's of little import and I should just forget about it.Regards,Mike
January 23, 200719 yr Author Hi,I'm now seeing three entries for Loadperf following a cold boot this morning - 2 failures and 2 apparent successes(!?)http://forums.avsim.net/user_files/165708.jpgAnd this is what I have loading at Startup:http://forums.avsim.net/user_files/165709.jpgI wish I understood what was going on here :(Edit: I found this description for 'LoadPerf' error:"No object list was found in the installation file. Adding an object list to the installation file will improve performance of the system when measuring performance counters."Still clear as mud!Mike
January 23, 200719 yr It could be that something happened in the past to corrupt the perf counters in the registry for the WMI Reverse Perf Adapter service. Try this (create a restore point first just in case, but this should be safe):Open up a DOS command window and type the following commands in:lodctr /r:wmiaprpllodctr /r:loadperfThen reboot and see of you're still getting this error.BTW, I'd uninstall those Omega drivers and go back to what you had before given the errors you're seeing in the benchmarks.RegardsBob ScottATP IMEL Gulfstream II-III-IV-VSantiage de Chile Bob Scott | President and CEO, AVSIM Inc ATP Gulfstream II-III-IV-V Sys1 (MSFS20+24/XPlane12+11): AMD 9800X3D, water 2x240mm, MSI MPG X670E Carbon, 64GB GSkill 6000/30, nVidia RTX4090FE Alienware AW3821DW 38" 21:9 GSync, 2x4TB Crucial T705 PCIe5 + 2x2TB Samsung 990 SSD, EVGA 1000P2 PSU, 12.9" iPad Pro Thrustmaster TCA Boeing Yoke, TCA Airbus Sidestick, Twin TCA Airbus Throttle quads, PFC Cirrus Pedals, Coolermaster HAF932 case Sys2 (P3Dv5/v4): i9-13900KS, water 2x360mm, ASUS Z790 Hero, 32GB GSkill 7800MHz CAS36, ASUS RTX4090 Samsung 55" JS8500 4K TV@60Hz, 3x 2TB WD SN850X 1x 4TB Crucial P3 M.2 NVME SSD, EVGA 1600T2 PSU Fiber link to Yamaha RX-V467 Home Theater Receiver, Polk/Klipsch 6" bookshelf speakers, Polk 12" subwoofer, 12.9" iPad Pro PFC yoke/throttle quad/pedals with custom Hall sensor retrofit, Thermaltake View 71 case, Stream Deck XL button box Sys3 (DCS/P3Dv4/ATS/ETS): AMD 7800X3D, MSI MPG X870E Carbon, Noctua NH-D15S, 64GB GSkill 6000/30, EVGA RTX3090 Alienware AW3420DW 34" 21:9 GSync, Corsair HX1000i PSU, 4TB Crucial T705 PCIe5 + 2TB Samsung 970Evo Plus, TM TCA Officer Pack, Saitek combat pedals, TM Warthog, TM RS300 FF wheel/pedals, Coolermaster HAF XB case
January 24, 200719 yr Author Hi Bob,Sorry to take so long. I've had a few more problems to sort out along the way. I'll post again as soon as I have something definite to say.Regards,Mike
January 28, 200719 yr Author Hi Bob,Though it was about time I said something. At first your suggestion seemed to have an effect in that if I look at the Event Viewer immediately following a fresh boot all is well and LoadPerf does not appear. However, I have been working to sort out a number of other unrelated irritating issues which I am now reasonably confident were caused by a utility called "RegCure". I stumbled across this 'registry cleaner' while doing some Internet searches and the reviews seemed pretty favourable. Much against my usually better judgement I gave it a try and now I really wish I hadn't. :( Many links had to be repaired after running this program and the most irritating of all was the intermittent appearance of the 'Windows Genuine Advantage Notification' window at boot (AppName: wgatray.exe, Mod Name: cryptnet.dll). In the end I conceded defeat and restored my system to an earlier date. Probably should have done that right away instead of wasting all that time trying to sort things out.I have returned to using my faithful and dependable trio: ERUNT/NTREGOPT, RegSupreme and RegCleaner.During the course of all this activity I rebooted my machine on numerous occasions and the LoadPerf error would soon reappear, but usually in groups of three: 2 failures (ID: 3012, 3011) followed by 1 success (ID: 1000). Currently this behaviour is consistent. My other problem relates to changing the drivers for my X800XL. For the first time ever over many years I've had the devil's own job trying to get SMARTGART to do its stuff and so far my efforts have been unsuccessful. I've tried various driver sets (ATI and Omega), cleaned everything out prior to each installation, including the use of Driver Cleaner Pro in SAFE MODE. I've uninstalled and reinstalled the AGP chipset drivers (apparently successfully on each occasion) and still no joy. I noticed after Windows loaded and my Video Controller was detected that an earlier version of the Omega drivers was also being reported in the description. I manage to get rid of this by cleaning out the driver.cab file using Driver Cleaner Pro. Now, in Device Manager, I have 2 entries under 'Other Devices' - Video Controller and Video Controller (VGA Compatible). There is now no 'Display' entry. The odd thing is that after ATI Tray Tools has been installed everything reported by SMARTGART appears to be okay - all that should be ON is ON and AGP is reported correctly as x8. Yet DxDiag begs to differ with no DirectDraw, Direct3D or AGP texture acceleration. I can't blame this on 'RegCure' as the system was restored to a date which preceded its installation. At the moment I am debating what to try doing next.Otherwise, my system appears rock solid albeit kinda slow with sluggish redraws caused by the absence of video acceleration ;)Mike
February 12, 200719 yr Author Thought some of you who may have been following this thread would like to know that I have, at last, managed to resolve this issue. The solution, I admit, was a bit of a cop out, but what the heck, it seems to have worked :)The 'LoadPerf' errors which were appearing repeatedly in the 'Event Viewer' under 'Application' were occurring, I now believe, because the data values in the registry under 'Perflib009' had somehow become corrupted. I was able to confirm that the vast majority of the performance counter data values were, in fact, missing!?I contacted Microsoft Support who suggested a couple of things to try which, unfortunately, didn't work, and then, in effect, just patted me on the head and advised me not to worry as these errors would not affect system operation. They did remind me, however, and for those of you, like me, who had forgotten, that Windows XP can restore many system files automatically using Windows File Protection. Some files can be restored after restarting. Also some issues are temporary issues. In the end, I bit the bullet and exported these data values from my wife's PC which has a relatively fresh installation of XP Home. After backing up my registry and also creating a System Restore Point, I imported these data values and, BINGO!, those problematic 'LoadPerf' errors appear to have gone away. Also, I believe that this confirms that these errors were appearing simply because the relevant 'WmiApRpl' counter values could not be found in the registry. As an added bonus I now find that the 'System Performance Monitoring' applet is now working (I couldn't get it to do anything before) and you will see from the image below that I have started a Standard Monitoring Session Log which I have configured to sample every 30 secs over a 6 hour period. Fingers crossed!http://forums.avsim.net/user_files/166549.jpgMike (never one to give up easily..lol)
