Hi, I wonder if someone could give me a few pointers on setting this thing up.C2D E66002Gig 800 ram8800GTX Running FS9 was very disappointing, could barely get rid of jaggies even at 16x AA and AF. Lots of flashing and textures swimming. Anyway, they sent me a new card, said it must be faulty. This one is much better, but, still get a flash every few seconds which, I think, is some of the clouds going to almost black, then back to white. Trouble is, there are so many settings in the control panel that I don't understand, so have'nt a clue whether it's set up correctly. To be honest, my old AMD3500/X800xtpe gave almost the same performance and equally good graphics without all this texture flashing. Any advice would be very welcome.Russell.

RussellWhich Nvidia drivers are you running? Nvidia are regularly updating the drivers for the G80 GPU's.I have an 8800GTS and also find problems with AA on occasions. I usually set AA to 4x with the Nvidia media center on the taskbar. I find that gives me a more fluid look. What setings do you use/have you altered in the control panel?I haven't experienced 'flashing' as such myself. Unless it's a driver or compatibility issue I can only think it must be a hardware issue.Scratch1964

Hi Scratch, the Global settings are, from top---8xOffOverride any application setting4xUse hardwareOffOffTrilinearOnSingle displayClampHigh qualityAutoMultisamplingOffOnUse 3D app. setting.Driver is the one that came with the card, 96.89 It is much better since they replaced the card, but still get this flash across the screen every so often. Also, when I pan round in spot view. I get black jaggies flash on/off at the edge of the screen. With, for instance the Cloud9 F104 at Aviano, FPS set at 30, it will hold 29 in the cockpit but drops to 20/24 in spot view. I was expecting better than that with the Intel E6600. Most sliders in the game are far right, no water, autogen at normal. 600w psu. 19 inch Iiyama vision master at 1280 by 1024. I've played around with the global settings a bit, but as I said, I have'nt a clue what most of them are supposed to do. Thanks for your help.Russell.

Mmmm, just did a flight in PMDG 747-400F EGLL/EGCC. Set FPS at 40,and it kept a solid 39/39.9 in every view, just dropped a couple in VC. Cheat line was jagged unless I zoomed in close. Upped AA to 8x, but no difference. Went back to the F104 in Italy, FPS OK in cockpit, but all over the place in spot view, constantly moving quickly from 12/24. Funny, I never had this with my old system, it kept a steady 22/25, no matter what the view. I dread to think how it would handle FSX.Russell.

Have you installed the Oct 06 update to DirectX 9c?The driver that came with your card is several generations old now. These drivers have been evolving rapidly since the card was released. I use 97.28, and they're nowhere near current now.The params you listed are for an old version of the driver...no idea what you have set with just a list of settings e.g. On Off Yes No Bilinear etc.Global settings are overridden by the program settings. What's in the fs9 program settings profile?Anyway, you need the latest DX9c and a reasonably current, preferably WHQL driver, as a starting point I think.CheersBob ScottATP IMEL Gulfstream II-III-IV-VSantiago de Chile

Thanks Bob, I assumed the global settings list would all be in the same order, sorry. My DirectX 9c is dated 28/2/06, so I'll update that. The latest driver I found is 97.92, so I'll try those and see what happens. Only had this rig about 3 weeks, so assumed everything would be up to date ( not very computer savvy) Going to work now, but will give your suggestion a try later tonight. Appreciate your help.Russell.

Russell; That DX9 update is important, as most of the changes are for cutting edge hardware like the G80 cards, and the drivers are based on the latest version of DX9 available as well. And I'd also recommend you start with an already-WHQL certified driver rather than the latest beta, as some of the betas have issues of their own. Last, it's very important that you make sure the old drivers are completely removed before installing new ones...it's not a good idea just to install the old over the new. Get a copy of the utility "Driver Cleaner" from www.guru3d.com. Uninstall the old drivers with Control Panel -> Add/Remove Programs, then reboot and do not allow Windows to look for drivers when it asks. Use Driver Cleaner to remove any lingering parts of the old driver installation. Then reboot again, and do not allow Windows to go looking for a driver when it asks. Then install the new driver and reboot again.CheersBob ScottATP IMEL Gulfstream II-III-IV-VSantiago de Chile

Just installed DX9 from the Microsoft site dated 1/9/07, but when I run dxdiag, all the dates are the same as before, so, either I had the latest ver. or it did'nt install properly. However, together with the 97.92 whql driver, I see a vast improvement. The flashing appears to have disappeared, and the fps stayed steady at 39 in the F104 around Aviano in all views. Still getting a few jagged edges, so still experimenting with settings. Can't thank you enough Bob for your help and advice.Russell.

Actually, I didn't realize there was another update to DX9c out...the 9 Jan 07 date is for the installer. But if you run DXDIAG, select the DirectX Files tab, and scroll down a few pages you should see a whole slew of new driver files dated 4 Jan 07.Glad you have it sorted out.CheersBob ScottATP IMEL Gulfstream II-III-IV-VSantiago de Chile

Hi bob, I've run the installer, and it tells me it has updated directX. However, when I run DXDIAG it's just the same as it was originally, with the latest files dated 28/02/06. Can't understand whats going on.Russell.
