New PC?

Featured Replies

Hi.Am going to get my self a new PC ,my old one is now almost 2 yrs.I have been thinking about this :db Typhoon Gamer! Intel Core 2 EXTREME QX6700 Quad Core 2.67GHz, 2GB 1111MHz DDR2 RAM, 150GB Western Digital RaptorX Gamer systemdisk, 500GB lagringsdisk, 2x!! (SLI) 768MB nVIDIA 8800GTX, Creative X-Fi Xtreme Gamer, Windows Vista Ultimate 64-bit.Am wondering what the advantage of having 2x graphic cards instead of one is?Any help would be great.Regards MartinMy B737NG Project.http://www.freewebs.com/boeing737ng/

Martin if you are indeed considering going all out, heres a few things to think about.1.The X6800 DUAL core, will outperform the Q6800 QUAD core. A user here on the board got some pretty disappointing results, after benchmarking FS on a Quadfather chip. Guess the only Q6800 reason i see is if you really want to futureproof yourself, right now however there aren't any games asking for a Quad core, and if its for FS only, forget it, it doesn't even properly use/adress DUALcore.2. 2GB RAM? If you are going to use Vista 64, u might as well go for 4GB, since it does support larger ram addressing., side note on 64Bits, be sure that you are able to get all your drivers, 64bits OS's can be a pain in some cases driverswise.3. SLI for FS, no performance boost, FS was not coded to use SLI, not FS9 or FSX.Hope this helps.

Hi wayupthere...But will SP1 change the conclusion for QUAD core if more tasks are off loaded to other cores? This seems to be what Phil Taylor and Microsoft are saying. Or do I have it wrong?Steve

Ya Steve, I read it too BUT, The patch isn't out, so for now it's just talk. My advice, don't go crazy and buy that quadchip just yet, and see when MS actually releases their SP it will do what they claim it does. Now im not against Microsoft at all, however i do take what they say during press releases/statements with a very colossal grain of salt. Seeing is believing specially regarding the performance issues of FSX.

Hi.Tanx fot the reply`s, You are right it`s better to wait until the SP1 before I go crazy with a new PC.My B737NG Project.http://www.freewebs.com/boeing737ng/

Nice setup and the TQ from Simparts looks great. Three components that I consider most important are: a TQ, yoke, & rudders. Pfc along with Engravity are offering a 737 yoke. Pfc has a great rudder system and the TQ from simparts would be the ultimate setup. Regards,Jack

Thanx, been working on the Cockpit now for 2 yrs , with a short break (6 month), the pfc rudder system looks really nice, haven`t read any reviews of it,but I cant wait to make a order from Engravity when they releas thers dubbel linked control column.RegardsMy B737NG Project.http://www.freewebs.com/boeing737ng/
